ISY Related iBeacon Applications?

My ultimate plan is to allow more *accurate* presence sensing and user identification for access control. With respect to the accurate presence it will be used for the GDO in hopes to make it operate 100% of the time.

As the current geo location simply does not work at all for me.

In another use case is where I have a office and a Insteon MS. Using the iBeacon I can craft a program that will disable the light timer until such time as I actually leave the room. This simple yet effective idea was proposed by another member here and this is something I look forward to deploying in my home.

On the security front the iBeacon will be used as a form of two form authentication. It will enable and unlock a computer terminal and also bring it out of hibernation mode. But, only if its my iOS device which also allows me to preset power save features in the hopes of reducing even more energy with in my home.

Those are the first three ideas I plan on deploying when Wes gets his beta trial underway.

Sorry, I'm almost on the same page as Teken regarding more accurate presence sensing. I was testing geohopper app, and a integration with mobilinc is interesting.

His other ideas seems great to pursue in the future.

The presence sensing application may have some use for me, but I still don't see much potential.

Was there something you had in mind or envisioned? I am always happy to hear what others have considered or thought up!

I've been testing my new Estimote beacons that arrived with the hope of replacing the geofencing feature of MobiLinc. They come with some demo programs, so I fired one up to full power, balanced it above my garage door and backed out of the garage and drove away. I have broadcasting set to 1 sec. I got about 200' away before it recognized I was gone. When I returned it didn't recognize my arrival until I hit the driveway. So it may work quite well, but I must admit I have gotten used to the garage door being completely open by the time I hit the driveway. Now I'll have to wait while the garage door opens.

The other two are definitely going to be needed, probably at full power also, around my 2 story 2800 sq ft house. I was walking around the house and one or other was dropping out from time to time at low power. There are certain habits that form (like going to get the mail) when you know that the geofence won't trigger because you have to be so far away for that to happen. Now the beacons will probably lose me when I get the mail. Although the motion sensors in the house do give me a 15 minute timeout before the house shuts down, just can't get into a long conversation with a neighbor at the mailbox. :)

I use a 200m geofence with MLHD to open my garage door, turn on lights, disarm my alarm. Works great. Door fully open just as I zip in the driveway. My neighbors don't have a clue how I do it. I enable the ignore location notification if the phone is locked to prevent someone else from obtaining access.

Just bought 3 Geohopper iBeacons and plan on participating in MLHD iBeacon beta testing. Should be fun.
