Bill Milford Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 I have two ApplianceLinc Outdoor Plugin Modules (2456SE) v.41. When send any On or Off command the device changes state, but the ISY generates a "Failed Communicating With" dialog. It says Cannot Communicate With xxxxx. Please check connections. The device then has a red "!" next to it. If I query the device, the correct status is returned and the error condition is cleared. I am using the latest released ISY firmware v.4.2.30 on an ISY 994i/IR PRO. Any ideas on how to solve this problem? Bill
LeeG Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 Run Tools | Diagnostics | Event Viewer at LEVEL 3. Send a few On and Off commands and post the event trace. Is there a load plugged into ApplianceLinc? It can signal an error if there is no load.
paulbates Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 If it's powering low voltage yard lighting, that's likely the culprit. I had to put a filterlinc on one of mine to get it to work Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Bill Milford Posted August 7, 2015 Author Posted August 7, 2015 It is load related. I wonder why that is. I am in testing mode and didn't have a load attached. I use these for Holiday lighting. My indoor appliance links do not have the same problem though. Here is the log. One has a load and work properly and the other had no load and it errors out. Why is this? insteon log 2.txt
LeeG Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Different firmware levels/types of devices have different responses. This Outdoor ApplianceLinc NAKs the request when there is no load attached. Fri 08/07/2015 01:52:56 PM : [iNST-TX-I1 ] 02 62 14 ED F5 0F 11 FF Fri 08/07/2015 01:52:56 PM : [iNST-ACK ] 02 62 14.ED.F5 0F 11 FF 06 LTONRR (FF) Fri 08/07/2015 01:52:56 PM : [iNST-SRX ] 02 50 14.ED.F5 34.E7.B7 AB 11 FE LTONRR (FE) Fri 08/07/2015 01:52:56 PM : [Std-Direct Nack] 14.ED.F5-->ISY/PLM Group=0, Max Hops=3, Hops Left=2 The AB is a NAK, the FE indicates "no load found". EDIT: this is a feature of the Outdoor ApplianceLinc rather than a problem. It lets you know that the load being controlled cannot be found by the device. An outdoor module could have buried cable that is not reaching the load even though the cable is plugged into the device.
Bill Milford Posted August 7, 2015 Author Posted August 7, 2015 Thanks, that explains the behavior. So there is no config option to disable that type of NAK like there is for load detection?
LeeG Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 No option in the Developer Notes to turn Off that type of NAK. The node can be Disabled in the ISY so that Direct On/Off commands are not issued by the ISY. Disable does not affect use of device in a Scene.
