Confirmation of standalone Insteon behavior

My mother in law has a motion sensor flood light fixture on a west facing patio. Every few years, a motion sensor fixture dies due to facing the weather and sun. After reviewing the alternatives from Home Depot, the online comments indicate a decent percentage of these units fail out in the elements like this, no matter how much money is spent on them.

 

I was thinking of trying it another way. I want to confirm that if get:

• 2842-292 Motion sensor
• 2432-292 Dual band switchlinc

 

I can manually link them and the motion sensor will activate the switch? These will be the only components in this Insteon setup.. no PLM, ISY, access points, etc. 

 

I will be good from an RF and weather perspective. The motion sensor will be just a few feet from the switch. I can mount the motion sensor under the eves and it should do better against the weather.

 

Will a 2 rf device configuration work? Seems like it should.

They can be placed in manual scene and it works. The motion sensor has manual settings for on time etc so you can configure it by hand.

I'll stop by Menards on my way there and go this route. To your point, I can use the jumpers to set what needs to be set.

Install jumper 5 and adjust the settings using your ISY. Leave the jumper in place and install the sensor. The settings will remain with the sensor.

Thanks for the great thought Stu. Menards is on the way to her house, so I won't have a chance to do it at home on my ISY.

 

The manual procedure looks fairly simple. It turns out that while my initial Insteon modules all did X10 exclusively, once I went Insteon, I got the PLM and software. Never manually linked one before.
