ryanmead83 Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Just a question as this is weird I noticed. I know most Z-Wave doesn't do instant status, just the more expensive GE Jasco I think it is type ones, or so I'm always told. I own a bunch of Linear Evolve Z-Wave switches, were super cheap like $30 each. When I had them on Vera, and ISY they definitely didn't do any status updates without polling. However I have the Wink hub and I connected them to it, but oddly they DO have instant status on there, but how is that possible? I can even use them as triggers like "If switch is turned on, then turn on these 3 other lights with it" and it works and it is instant. Can even see it on the Wink, you turn it on or off and the Wink instantly flashes green showing Z-Wave activity. Even if I go to make triggers under robots, it will show the devices that support being a trigger, and then below that it will say "The following devices can not be used as a trigger" and then it lists my Leviton dimmers for lamps which makes sense as they don't have on/off buttons on them, they are remote control only. Just thought that was interesting. Can send the model if that helps at all, just wondering what Wink might have that's different that it knows status like that.
PurdueGuy Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 With some (all?) Z-Wave devices, the developer of the hub can build in workarounds to support instant status. The switch always broadcasts a "button presses" since at the controller might be doing an include or exclude, so the controller can watch for those and act. It might immediately query, or make assumptions. However, those signals must be heard directly by the controller, they cannot pass through intermediate devices.
xKing Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 PurdueGuy pretty much nailed it, there is about the NIF: http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,25994.msg184182.html#msg184182
ryanmead83 Posted September 10, 2015 Author Posted September 10, 2015 That makes sense, just thought it was interesting when I saw it updating real time.
