Interface with Amazon Echo?

With so many reports of problems with device names with spaces in it, there must be a problem.

Can you PM me your uuid along with a device you have tested but did not work? I need the device address and name.

I will check the logs and the spoken table coming from the refresh devices.

Benoit.

Just sent.

I also tried taking the name of the device and also putting that in the spoken notes box.

What happens in a scenario which I have "Bedroom Light" that is a switchlinc, and I have a button on a keypadlinc that is also called "Bedroom Light" to controll the switchlinc, and I also have a scene called "Bedroom Light" to link the keypad button and switchlinc together? What device will the Echo tell the ISY to turn on/off?

I believe I found out the issue with multiple words.

Without going into the details, I believe the issue is with all the devices that ends up with "light" or "lights".

Does anyone have devices with multiple words other than ending with "light" which could share their results, positive or negative? I had personnally tested with devices using multiple words successfully, and I'm not using "light" at the end.

Thanks,

Benoit.

No joy. Just tested "ceiling fan" and I'm still getting "Which device?"...

I keep getting "sorry can't find a device with that name in David's profile". So where do I add devices to my profile? I already had Izxy refresh devices after adding names in the ISY.

It's not exactly the same problem.

If you get a message that only says "Turn on which device?

This means that Alexa did not understand you fully, and the skill was sent an empty device.

To validate this, look at the echo app, in the main section, to see what she understood.

However, if you get a message saying "I could not find device XUZ. Turn on which device?"

It means that it understood the device, but it dropped the "light" at the end.

This is this second case I was talking about.

What is the command to load programs?

Tried refresh programs, she says 10 devices found

There is not such commands.

Programs are looked up on your ISY in real time.

Alexa did hear me correctly after checking the Echo app. The only device name I've been successful with so far, is "kitchen".

I got it to work intermittently. Seems I have to say Alexa open Izzy. The Alexa tell Izzy to turn on dining room lights. Then to turn them off I have to tell Alexa to open Izzy again.

Might as well start mobilinc it would be faster.

Interesting... "Kitchen" is the only word that appears to be working for me too

You don't have to say Alexa, open izzy

Just say Alexa, tell izzy to <do something>

Or Alexa, ask izzy to <do something>.

The actual command that you send this way can be a "one shot" command, meaning that it has all the information to proceed, or it can be partial. If partial, it will prompt you for the missing information, if required.

Example, if you just say "Alexa, tell izzy to set temperature"

It will then prompt you for: the device, which setpoint (if device handles both heat/cool), and temperature.

Sorry,  the right question was how to run programs.

Trying to run program  named "Test"

Getting "program test not found".   (Thought this meant a program table needed to be loaded).

Card in app says Alexa heard: "tell izzy to run program test"

The program is simply:

Then

    Set  'Mantle' Off

How do I get the skill to stop the introduction "Welcome to your Home. You can use the ISY skill to control your devices, locks, thermostats, or programs. How can I help you?"

I looked at the logs to troubleshoot.

Please look at the echo app and see what Alexa understands in the main section. It does not understand what you think.

Jon...

Were you saying "Alexa, open izzy" ?

If so, that's the intended behavior. And we need a welcome like this to pass certification. I used to have a shorter one that was refused.

Once used with the skill, you should be using more direct commands.

If that is not what you spoke, it must be that alexa did not understand you. Please check what she understands in the echo app.

If some have trouble with alexa understanding you properly, you may want to use the voice training in the echo app. This is designed to help alexa understand you better.

I've been told by insiders at amazon that it's a good practice to follow the voice training once in a while.

No luck with any device name, not kitchen, not main, not light, nothing. All I get is "cannot find whatever-I-spoke." With more that 100 device (Alexa counts 306), every time I try a new name, either renaming the device or adding a spoken word, and ask Alexa the refresh, I have to tell Alexa I want to keep waiting, more than 6-8 times.

I started out using the same names that I had success with using the Hub 2.

The log is only showing that Alexa acts on the word "kitchen"

Even when it hears "kitchen cans" it turns "kitchen" (a separate light) on/off.

It doesn't seam to understand "pendant" or "cans". When it it heard turn on "family room spots" it responds with "can't find family room" dropping the word "spot"

Do you see something different?

Well it says it can't find any devices unless I tell her to open Izzy. Then it works to do one command. Then a minute later it won't unless I say open Izzy again.

That's what is happening

My observations in trying this out:  As noted light or lights in a device name is problematic.  Two words work sometimes (living room for example) but one word works more reliably.  I have not been able to get any three word names to work.  Voice training definitely helped with recognition.  Sometimes the skill appears to stop recognizing a previously recognized device.  When I then ask alexa to open izzy, it can then recognize the device again.

I am seeing something similar where I have to have Alexa open Izzy for every command.

I re-discoved devices I added to the Hub. The identical spoken words that did not work with IZZY work fine with the Hub.

Initially I wasn't receiving this behavior but after associating my Izzy with the word "Home" (somewhere along the lines Alexa asked for this) now I'm plagued.  I've tried "Alexa, ask Issy" and "Alexa, open Issy" but I get no reprieve.
