appreciate it.

I think I have enough info to take my leap.

I am hoping to get away with just using z-wave, because I have to be honest, reading the continuous and various failure comments about PLMs does not give a warm and cozy feeling. I read that even version2 have failures after two years or so. I would like to hear if the experienced forum members here have different and more reliable experiences with PLMs?

cheers.

Version 2 PLMs have not been in existence for two years, so they can't have experienced "failures after two years or so." The concern about the latest PLMs is the All On phenomenon which seems to have been fully taken care of in the latest update as well as all shipping Insteon devices.

If you go Z-Wave, then you may need to add repeaters. The consensus seems to favor the Aeon Gen 5 siren used for its repeater ability.

Thanks for the feedback.

Will order a couple of Gen5 Sirens, and PLM version2, so I can at least bench test all scenarios.

I am sure will be interesting learning for me.

cheers.

Hello Amigo,

It should be noted most Amazon items listed are from Smarthome. There are other 3rd party vendors but all of them receive their inventory from Smarthome. Realistically unless the vendor has NOS (New Old Stock) you're almost assured to receive a hardware 2.XX 2413S PLM.

Lastly, please do keep us all in the loop as to how this deployment goes on. Would love to read how this mini set up evolves and what the experience is for you and the end client.

I am sure an Amazon purchased 2413S PLM would be a very recent production run.

I got mine awhile back and they had to wait for more to ship from the factory warehouse. Before mine shipped.

Mine is a V2.1 Firmware 9E

Could you guys please explain the use for the PLM USB version?

INSTEON 2413U USB Interface

Thanks.

That would b e for connecting to controllers that use a USB interface or for PC's.  The ISY requires the Serial interface (2413S) and is NOT compatible with the USB PLM.
