Scyto Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 I really really liked SEG - until they decided they want $35 a month from me! I really don't know if i have the time to figure out EMONCMS and its feeds and complexity. Has anyone a good emoncms pointer? Has anyone looked at leveraging any other sites or perhaps some of the new IoT startup dashboards like https://freeboard.io/(still not free)? Just trying to work out which way to go.... perhaps just figuring out how to reverse proxy my dashbox is a better idea...
Scyto Posted November 27, 2015 Author Posted November 27, 2015 This looks like a potential for 5 bucks a month... https://www.initialstate.com
MWareman Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 .... perhaps just figuring out how to reverse proxy my dashbox is a better idea... Ben at Brultech is *really* close to figuring out the bugs in Dashbox that prevented reverse producing from working, at my prompting.... at my prompting... When a full functional proxy is possible, I'll happily post the Apache config.
io_guy Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 I've spent very little time on SEG and EmonCMS (basically enough to verify NodeLink runs on them). From my experience I found Emon to be much easier to use. Emon also has the ability to be installed locally, taking the cloud out of the equation.
ppitkin Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 I too was very disappointed with how much it would have cost me to keep my SEG setup running (ca. $55 a month!). I had a quick look at the documentation for EMONCMS and thought that it was far to complicated to get setup and visually is not very good. My hope is that Ben will eventually get all of the bugs sorted out on the Dashbox and maybe even develope some of those really nice looking gadgets that SEG had for displaying the data. I really did like the look of SEG. The dash box has the basics at the moment so it's enough to do basic monitoring that I need. I just hope that the development of the gui speeds up a bit.
Scyto Posted November 27, 2015 Author Posted November 27, 2015 yeah i am hoping the same on the dashbox - it also has 2 years of my data stored on it which is cool. I just wish Ben would use a prettier visualization widget framework - the one on SEG was awesome.
ccclapp Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 Over the past few months since the last post, where have you guys ended up? The DB dashboard looks pretty good now, but not as robust as SEG (but it's free). I'm trying to encourage io_guy to add ISY smart device (smart plugs etc) support via nodelink and thus get both gem/dash circuit data and ISY smart plug data to my monitoring site. I expect to use SEG for a while, but want to get your feedback on other options. When you discuss "reverse proxy" the DB does that mean send ISY data into DB from ISY, or something else? I wish DB had calculated streams and could receive ISY device data. If so it might be viable alternative to SEG. Thanks!! PS: care to give a +1 to encourage io_guy to add ISY smart plug support in nodelink??
ppitkin Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 The DB does have "grouped" channels which is a bit like the calculated streams providing you just want to add streams together.

PS: care to give a +1 to encourage io_guy to add ISY smart plug support in nodelink?? stayed with DB as i already have it, it works and has my data on it. stayed with SEG as i couldn't think about it while i was going though brain surgery - need to get back to figuring out what my backout plan is (though i still love the way they display stuff) i am forwarding data emoncms but the complexity of getting default dashboards up is high friction to me doing anything with it. I have asked brultech if they would be willing to receive energy data from the z-wave stuff on ISY - no commitment, maybe you want to ask on the brultech forum and i will jump on though i am also good with the opposite where the energy data from the brultech is in the ISY - but then we need good power portal to look at the data
