Certainly I know you and I can do this and not do any damage, but if a completely unrelated failure occurred and they found evidence of you tinkering in there, they'd say you voided your warranty. Plus, it is just so easy to plug in the synchrolinc and write a single short program and your done. No screwdriver needed and it takes 3 minutes.
