502ss Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 Ok, so here it goes..... Looking for a cheap (within reason) PTZ wifi camera that can be fully controlled via the ISY network module. Looking to be able to adjust position, start and stop recording to an FTP site, etc. it would also be nice to have the motion in the camera be able to also send a command to the ISY but this isn't critical as I could do what I need with Insteon MS. I would prefer to have something that communicates directly to the ISY vs going through a pi or similiar. I have a NAS that I will use as the FTP server to house the snapshots or vid clips. Camera quality is not extremely important, yes I want a decent picture but it doesn't need to be 4K! outdoor rated is also not required but would be nice! Real world experience using the capability I listed above would be awesome! Ok, ready, set, go!!
Xathros Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 The inexpensive Foscam or Smarthome (rebranded Foscam) meet these requirements. -Xathros
MWareman Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 Foscams cannot send the necessary authorization header to trigger ISY actions. You need a device in between (like a Pi). Otherwise, everything else can be done.
stusviews Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 The ISY (with a network module) can send commands to an IP camera, but the camera cannot send commands to the ISY without additional hardware as Michael has indicated.
502ss Posted April 9, 2016 Author Posted April 9, 2016 The ISY (with a network module) can send commands to an IP camera, but the camera cannot send commands to the ISY without additional hardware as Michael has indicated. Is this true for all IP cameras or just the ones mentioned above?
stusviews Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 All IP cameras. DVRs sometimes include motion sensing contacts.
502ss Posted April 10, 2016 Author Posted April 10, 2016 Thanks guys! Any reason to look at an actual foscam vs. the smart home branded one?
stusviews Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 I prefer the Foscam firmware, but read each manual to reach a decision.
