What's the name of the sensor I need to fix the Garage IO Linc?

I have the Garage IOLinc kit but it's backwards if that makes sense.  As in when the door is closed the ISY shows it as ON and when open it's Closed.  Asked ages ago about this was told I can get a different door sensor, but can't remember if it's NC or NO that I need.  I feel like NC since the garage door is normally closed but wanted to double check since have to special order one as Amazon doesn't seem to carry them here.  Thanks!

"Normal" refers to the sensor state when sensor and magnet are separated. "Normally closed", then, is a sensor whos contacts are closed (zero resistance) when so separated.

 

With the IOLinc, ON is when the sensor is closed. If you desire to install your sensor such that the magnet is seprated from sensor ("normal" condition) when the door is open, and an open door to be reflected by ON with the IOLinc, you would need, therefore, a NC sensor.

 

Whether one way or another is backwards depends on viewpoint and installation.

Part of the confusion is in electronics the state with no magnet is called out and security setting when the magnet moved out of the position when the zone is satisfied..

 

So a normally closed sensor would be with no magnet. To an electronic technician.

 

When the same exact sensor is called out in a security setting it is for a normally open system. As the violated zone is when the magnet is moved away from the sensor. Allowing it to close.

The main issue is not to use the reversal" option in the IOLinc setup in ISY.

 

 

Mine shows On, when the garage door is closed, works just fine, labelled as GarageDoor.closed so that it is true logic, and never gives false indication from the 4:00 AM Query.

 

Whether you have On or Off with the garage door closed makes no difference, just write your software to work with no reversal option turned on, and label your device point to the proper logic.

But from a *Human* perspective the majority of people expect when a light (LED) is lit. This denotes something as being on / active where as the light (LED) being off indicates a off / closed state.

 

There are many industries that have tried extremely hard in the *Human Ergonomics* arena like the automotive group. I can tell you from working in this field the industry is still completely lost.

 

If a person has to think about something to make sense of it - that application or representation of such has failed. There are lots of industries and those who design, make, and work in these industries and 50% of them agree its a complete fail.

 

Whereas the other 50% of the engineers simply make excuses for poorly thought out implementation.

 

Bottom line, if you have to think about something - its failed in its objective.

Thanks so much everyone that helps.  And yes right now it does work but for whatever reason seeing a key on the panel lit up just draws your attention more as to something out of the ordinary.  So I just naturally expect the button to be lit up when the door is open, indicating it wants my attention or whatever.
