ISY as home alarm?

Featured Replies

Posted

I need new alarm system for new house. Perwired.

Options are:

DSC + HA device or just HA.

I can read that ISY is more reliable than Vera or SS.

For basic setup I just need 3 motions + 2 smart keylocks.

Question - Can ISY fully replace old-style alarm?

The task is simple - arm/disarm from phone or door lock or proximity (if possible).

Step 2 - I want to add lights control, and want to achieve the following: when disarm - lights on, simple but with no significant delays.

System must run by inself even if Internet is down.

Doable?

Last q. Anyone with ISY/ Control4 experience? Can ISY replace Control4?

The ISY does not replace an alarm system, it does not have the features required of an alarm system.   My alarm system has battery backup and other features not available in my ISYs.   ELK alarm system works well with an ISY.

ISY also does not implement supervising sensors - to ensure they are not being jammed or otherwise disabled. Elk is the way to go if you want to use alarm zones in your automation, since it has a native, supported plugin on the ISY. However, if your willing to run middleware you can also integrate any DSC based system.

Do you mean that the house is prewired for a security system?
