Just came across this notice on the Foscam site..............   Important Message from Foscam Digital Technologies Regarding US Sales & Service We, Foscam.US (aka Foscam Digital Technologies and now Amcrest Technologies), are an independent United States based distributor of "Foscam" branded products. We have been offering telephone support, US local warranty and building the Foscam brand in the US for the past 7 years. However, we are deeply saddened to report that, even after all of this, our overseas suppliers have decided to undercut us and supply to our major customers directly. For this reason, we have no choice but to suspend telephone support for all Foscam branded products. If you have purchased a Foscam camera directly from us or from one of our authorized retailers, technical support is still available via email at support@foscam.us.

For customers who have not purchased from us directly, we advise you to please contact Foscam Shenzhen or the distributor which you have purchased from. In the meantime, we have launched our own new brand of IP cameras called Amcrest, which has superior quality products and full telephone technical support 7 days per week. We hope you can support us in our new venture. For more information, please visit www.Amcrest.com.

Any idea how they perform?

Hi techman, no. My guess is that its an improved housing and LED infra light, and newer, less expensive electronic components. The video specs look the same, would love to see side by side images compared to the other cameras.

I have to guess SH cut down the middle on this one? They have an solid existing sales channel and people answering the phones already. So if you buy it from them at their price, they'll support it. Having a very similar manual, and identical management software as the earlier products, it should be relatively the same support wise.

That's good news / bad news.. good news, its well know how to integrate it and similar performance expectations... bad news that there are no new features / capabilities.

Hopefully someone here gets one and can report out.

Given how dreadful Foscam support has been (they STILL don't have a solution for the Chrome plugin issue for the HD cameras, and that Chrome security change was LAST YEAR!), I'm not terribly worried about the loss of phone support.  0 - 0 still equals 0.

Would you got that route vs a Hikvision camera from a real US distributor?

Probably wont' use a oem nvr, roll my own with a Q-snap or so setup.  thewirecutter.com always does a good review of that stuff to pick from.

The Hikvision products do not seem to be readily available on a retail level. The Amcrest products are available on Amazon and other U.S. sites. In case of a problem they're easy to return or replace.
