What is a good backup?

Hello,

I'm confused w/ all the options, can someone explain those options :

  1. File -> Backup ISY

  2. File -> Restore ISY

  3. File -> Restore Devices (Insteon only? or Insteon & Z-Wave?)

  4. File -> Restore Model (PLM)

  5. Z-Wave -> Tools -> Backup -> Normal

  6. Z-Wave -> Tools -> Backup -> Full

  7. Z-Wave -> Tools -> Restore (this one I get it!)

Does Backup ISY include a backup of the Z-Wave devices?  A clear explanation off each option in the wiki would useful, if it's there I didn't find it.

Hello,

I'm confused w/ all the options, can someone explain those options :

  1. File -> Backup ISY <- Backs up all settings and programs

  2. File -> Restore ISY < Restores the system from the back up you created.

  3. File -> Restore Devices (Insteon only? or Insteon & Z-Wave?) <- Restore device is for Insteon and inserts what the ISY has in its data base to bring a device to a previous state.

  4. File -> Restore Model (PLM) <- This will insert all the links from a old PLM into a new PLM

  5. Z-Wave -> Tools -> Backup -> Normal

  6. Z-Wave -> Tools -> Backup -> Full

  7. Z-Wave -> Tools -> Restore (this one I get it!)

Answers in line . . .

I don't own any Z-Wave so can't comment on what normal vs full does.

My understanding is you have to do a Z-Wave backup first (which will store the backup on the ISY's file system) then do an ISY backup which will include the Z-Wave backup.

I never made a backup before, i.e. I was always just playing around... but somehow lost a bunch of devices after re-installing 5.0.4 :(  ... so, clearly it's important I do those backup now :)

Thank you,

Pierre
