Posted November 10, 20168 yr Hello Changed PLM - Did it EXACTLY as the instructions indicated. Everything on the ISY looks fine and works except 1 IO Link. I have removed it from the ISY and when trying to re-add, it doesnt find it. I factory reset - same result. Any other ideas? It operats the item it is connected to when manually activating it. Thanks!
November 10, 20168 yr The I/O Linc is power line only, no RF. You may have something on the same circuit that's interfering with communication. Is the I/O Linc in the garage? If not, where is it located?
November 10, 20168 yr Author It is located on on an outlet hi on the wall. It is used for the fireplace. Worked great for 2 years. When I changed the PLM, I got an error on that device - "cannot communicate with device xxxx"
November 10, 20168 yr It's not unlikely that you have added something (to that circuit) over 2 years. Adding or linking is a lot more intensive than using a device as is updating a PLM. One choice is to search that circuit and unplug or disconnect anything electronic (turning a device off is inadequate, it must be unplugged or disconnected). Even a wall wart can cause a problem. Or you can remove the I/O Linc and try again on a different circuit, preferably on the same circuit as the PLM.
November 11, 20168 yr Author So I have removed everything from that circuit. There was TV that I forgot about. But unplugging that gave me marginal success. I got error sometimes and other times not. I can only think at this point that it is failing.
November 11, 20168 yr Just to be sure, plug the I/O Linc into another circuit (or use an extension cord to provide power from another circuit, ground in not required). Any improvement?
November 11, 20168 yr Author Crap! That worked great. So it is that orginal outlet. I dont know what the noise can be from. And why it worked flawlessly for 2 years. There is a CFL in that circuit. Could that be it? AND only after changing the PLM Edited November 11, 20168 yr by TheWabit
November 11, 20168 yr Yes, a CFL can certainly cause a communication problem. And, yes, changing a PLM causes every link to be rewritten to both the devices (where they must be) and to the ISY for a record.
November 11, 20168 yr Author So the CFL is not the problem. I removed it and got the same result. Based on your answer, can the links be completely removed and start over? I have factory reset the IO. I guess I still don't understand the updated PLM changes the comm problem. If I have a comm problem, it should have existed before - nothing has changed except a tv but after that was installed, it still worked flawlessly. Unfortunately - I am limited to this outlet because it is up on a fireplace and the low voltage wire goes across to the switch (on the inside of a drywall frame of a flume.

If you have a Lamplinc, a On/Off module or a Range Extender, which are all dual band, you can try plugging one into the IOlinc to see if that eliminates your problem. If it does then you most likely have a powerline communication issue that you'll need to work on.
November 11, 20168 yr Author Ok. How do you think a Filterlink will do if I can identify the problem device? I have never used one but I have one on the way.I wll try your suggestion - Thanks! Edited November 11, 20168 yr by TheWabit
November 11, 20168 yr The I/O Linc is power line only. Plugging a dual-band device into the I/O Linc pass-through outlet may help because if will add RF at a point very close to the I/O Linc. A FilterLinc is only useful if the offending devices is plug-in. You may want to search again for something connected to the offending circuit. Solving the problem is considerably better than a work around, but in the end you may have no other choice. Add the I/O Linc on a different circuit. Create all the scenes that you need, then relocate the I/O Linc to where it needs to be. That may be enough. If not, then there really is an offending device on the desired circuit.
November 29, 20168 yr Author After much trial and error - I think I have it fixed. I have 2 offending devices on that circuit. That required me to buy 2 filterlincs. That pretty much solved the problem. I wish I could remove those items from the circuit but it just isn't possible. The only thing I am struggling with is my wireless remotelinc is not very reliable. I have to push the button 2, 3, and 4 times and move it around the room. Turning on the I/O with the admin panel works flawlessly. I suspect it is because I am still using the old 2440 remotelinc. And I do have a few dual-band devices in the same room. So I have never used filterlinc before - but it does work.
