Linking for Dummies?

Recommended Posts

Being an old X10 user I did not understand the concept of linking insteon devices. But now that I do it is pretty cool. I don't have to write programs to have one switch activate another. I linked two of my insteon switchs and it worked. Then I added them to isy and lost those links.

How do I do the same type of linking using isy?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I am have some sort of mental block with and can't make sense of all that I have read.

Thanks,

Paul.

Insteon device are designed to be manually linked unless you are using an Insteon manager such as the ISY. In that case, all linking should be done using the ISY. Note that when two or more Insteon devices are linked, that's referred to as a scene.

So, to link devices, create a scene. Scenes have controllers and responders. ISY controllers are automatically added as both a controller and a responder. If you want to create a virtual 3-way configuration, then add each device as a controller. Controllers appear in red, responders appear as blue.

Here's a scene with two controllers and one responder:

Create a scene in the Admin Console for ISY, as if it was another device, then drag and drop devices into it.
