raymondh Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 My 2 year old PLM started sending all off commands then quit completely so I had to replace it. I have a bunch of motion sensors that are only used in programs (they don't directly control anything). I put them one by one into link mode and connected them to the new PLM like the instructions on here say when replacing PLMs. They all work but a few of them will flash a bright red LED several times after seeing motion. Insteon's troubleshooting says that indicates a communication issue but I've never seen it before and things seem to be working as well as they ever did with them. I've tried putting them in link mode and restoring them but that doesn't help. Any thoughts?
G W Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 I thought it indicated it sees motion. I'm Gary Funk and I approved this message.
raymondh Posted December 1, 2016 Author Posted December 1, 2016 There's the normal dim fast flash for motion then there's the bright long flash that means something else.
G W Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 It means your batteries are going dead. You're a battery. I'm Gary Funk and I approved this message.
raymondh Posted December 1, 2016 Author Posted December 1, 2016 I've tried a few batteries (from different packs) in the ones doing it. Doesn't change.
larryllix Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 I have one that I had to factory reset about 5 times before it behaved. Now when I change the battery I have to factory reset it again. My other 9 units work without this.
Teken Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 There several conditions which causes the MS to flash. 1. Motion detected 2. Low Battery 3. Unable to communicate to a linked device either because of noise, not present, or defective hardware. This is also due to half links that may reside after a failed add / remove process. 4. Pending write: The system will attempt to write any pending writes if auto writes have been invoked in the controllers.
MrWorf Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 If it flashes continuously, then it's having issues talking to a device. You said you paired it, but what you really need to do a restore and get rid of the old PLM, that's probably why you're seeing this.
