Newbie ISY - Can I disconnect/sell my insteon hub(s)

Hi,

Have been gradually obtaining Insteon switches, a thermostat and camera, and will be replacing my many X10 switches over time as budget allows.   I at first ran my insteon switches and thermostat on a 2242 series 1 insteon hub so that I could control X10  (also have a series 2 2245 hub that is disconnected).  But recently, I  got my new ISY 994i, and have successfully done some programming (simple If/Then programming of Insteon 2441TH thermostat)

I still have the insteon hub connected and the Insteon core app on my ipad/iphone on my PC. Since getting the ISY, I added Mobilinc to my iphone and ipad, and it can see/control  my insteon devices, as well as the programs on the iSY   (Not that it matters to this question, but I also have X10 Activehome and the PC interface running to program X10 switches that I haven't had time to learn how to add and test on the ISY.)

So to my basic question, does the ISY expect an Insteon hub to be present, or does it (with the PLM) completely replace the hub?

Thanks

Hello Gary,

Ideally the ISY Series Controller should be the only box that manages the Insteon network. Having said this some members have kept both controllers on line together but great care must be taken to ensure a successful network with out conflict. When migrating from one controller from the next the Insteon hardware should always be hard reset.

Doing so will eliminate any half links, programming, and restore the OEM default features.

Welcome to the forum!!!

Completely replaces the hub and then some.

I still use X10 modules in low usage, non-secure applications like Christmas trees and Christmas lighting.

Make sure to factory reset all modules before linking them to ISY. It will avoid a lot of potential problems down the road. They may be linked into the old hub and things may clash.

There's no need to use an Insteon Hub if you have an ISY and MobiLinc.

Also worthy of mention, the X10/A10 module can be purchased for $9.00 at this time.

It doesn't change a lot, it just allows you to add your X10 devices to the main device tree and give them meaningful names.
