2441ZTH No Temperature Display on Console

I have a 2441ZTH thermostat that I want to use as a standalone controller for a simple space heater application.  It is on AC power.

It works fine, responds to set and actual, etc., but I can't get a temperature display in the console, just humidity, setpoint and control mode.  I pressed buttons, blew in it to get it to change 2 degrees (changes on the display, but still not in the console), nothing I do seems to work.

Any ideas on this?

Thanks.

It can take more than two degrees to get it to send a temperature update, especially if you are using foreign heat.

Sent from a tiny keyboard. Response may be brief.

Make sure you handle the blank values in your programs. IIRC it translates to 0 degrees.

You may just want to RMA it if it's within warranty. I recently purchased 3 2441TH V1 units but one of them failed in a weird way. The room it was installed in got very cold as if the heat wasn't running, but logs showed differently. However, that thermostat also controled the HVAC dampers into that room and after running tests I found that it was never reporting the heat/cool/fan service calls, even though it would make those calls to the HVAC (via hardware). I reasoned that it must have been programmed as a heat pump (which lacks those nodes for some unknown reason), and after contacting customer service the guy immediately realized the problem. Same kind of subtle failure you are seeing though - reported temp, setpoint, but not operating status (ie calling for heat/cool/fan). Query worked OK, but again never reported call status.

This one is reporting everything BUT temperature.  Heat/cool outputs are working fine (it's controlling fine) and reporting fine.I'm going to let it go a day or so in changing temperature and see if it comes on.  If not, I probably will return it.  It's Amazon, so I shouldn't have any problem there.

I just received my 2441ZTH thermostat (on sale at Smarthome). I am also using ISY-994i, and am getting the same thing - everything is displaying (humidity, hot and cool setpoints, etc.), all except temperature.  The temperature does not get sent to my console.  It didn't with batteries first installed, and then I hooked up a 5 V supply to power the unit.  No change (batteries, batteries plus 5 volts, 5 volts external alone).  I have tried factory resetting the device, and also reinstalling it (twice) in my ISY-994i system.  No changes - no ambient temperature being displayed in the "Current State" of the Administrative Console.

I just called the Insteon support line about this.  She didn't think that the 2441ZTH was "supported' on the ISY-994i, even though ISY recognizes it, installs it, and handles of few of the data elements of the wireless thermostat.  She told me that she thought it would only work when linked to a Master thermostat, and not work as a standalone thermostat.  The first bullet point on the Smarthome info page for this device identifies that it can work as a standalone thermostat (as a controller).

I have several wireless Insteon thermostats. They all function fully in the ISY whether or not they're linked to a wired thermostat. Caveat: They're all powered with 5VDC external supplies.

I am currently running it off a modified USB cable, plugged into a small iPhone charger "cube" (about 5.19 volts).  I have tried all options of battery, battery + external power, and external power alone.  I factory reset it again, and reinstalled into ISY.

It has self-cycled to "turn" the A/C on, and the displayed temperature (thanks to a fan in the room) has gone from 81 degress to 78 degrees - my stuffy, now cooling office.

Screenshot attached, if that came though.

It seems like it should display the current temperature on the console when you query it, without waiting for a change.  Like the z-wave multi-sensor.

What's the voltage of your A/C supply?

Try doing a restore device, it's possible that the link table got corrupted

The temperature only updates about every 2 degrees of temperature change regardless of whether you're on batteries or A/C. A query won't update the ISY. The humidity will update upon a change of 1%

Well, my high velocity, directional fan sits near the ceiling in the room, and ejects the hotter thinner air from above out to the foyer, and thereby moves the colder air near the floor into my office.

The temperature had changed from 81 to 78, but I had done a fair amount of resetting to factory settings, reinstalling the device, and finally restoring the device during all that time.

The fan just moved the temperature from 78 to 76 while I was watching.  Voila' - 75.5 degrees began showing on the Administrative Console.

So thanks for all the suggestions!  Not sure which one was the real fix, but I suspect the actual "change" of 2 degrees, without me mucking around with factory resets, and restores and whatnot was probably the answer.  Still is strange to me to see that empty "Current State" box, where the temperature should actually be displayed upon initial startup.
