Outlander Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 (edited) This new light switch replacement looks interesting: https://www.brilliant.tech/ Video intercom and Alexa built in. Compatible with Sonos and Nest. Uses WiFi to communicate so should be possible to interface with ISY? Ship date is late summer, 2017 (Aug/Sept) Edited February 15, 2017 by Outlander
oberkc Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 That does look like it has potential. I am trying to decide how much such a device would be worth to me, assuming I can use it with my existing ISY
TomG Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 Looks interesting, but I don't shop Target any more. 1 1
kohai Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 Looks interesting, but I don't shop Target any more. I also thought Target was an odd tie-in for such a product.
MikeB Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 Just got an email from a local distributor saying they will be carrying this light switch. Looks interesting! I hope there is some way to integrate with the ISY/INSTEON.
mdonato Posted November 16, 2018 Posted November 16, 2018 I was just at a local distributor and was playing with this. The screen is nice although i'm not a fan of the vertical lines for the 2/3/4 gang models. This would be cool if it can integrate with insteon, but would really require some sort of special faceplate to work in a box bigger than single gang, one that might be their touch screen with decora cutouts for the 2/3/4 gang spots.

mdonato Posted November 16, 2018 Posted November 16, 2018 not by default, i'm reaching out to their development team to find out more about working with ISY/Insteon. 1
bxsteez2 Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 I really want to buy this but i'm worried it being like the Wink panels. Its a good device if you stay in their ecosystem but if you want to control the light it replaces it gets cumbersome. I wonder if I can just cut a hole and put this device in the room without connecting it to a load. Does anyone have one of these yet? How is the screen? Is it responsive?
EddieRock Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 I'm interested in adding this to my ISY installation. @mdonato did the development team respond to you?
madmat777 Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 posting to be notified of replies on this. Could not see another way to get updates,

beninsteon Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 It says works with Phillips hue lights so presumably using the hue emulator nodeserver you can control isy devices with this.
blackpr Posted May 31, 2019 Posted May 31, 2019 Available now. No mention of ISY. https://www.brilliant.tech/pages/works-with
asbril Posted May 31, 2019 Posted May 31, 2019 Interesting indeed. I will follow this topic and hopefully there is a way to connect to ISY (Nodeserver ????). I also would like to know if it can control Chromecast ? Maybe as it connects to Google Home, there is a way to also connect to Chromecast......
carealtor Posted June 28, 2019 Posted June 28, 2019 I just watched a few video reviews. I'm very impressed and intrigued. A few of the reviewers mentioned that they were probably going to put an old tablet on the wall to control their smarthome, but now they were going to use Brilliant instead. This is exactly where I am. As @beninsteon mentioned, it works with Hue, so it make sense that we could easily integrate with the ISY through the Polyglot Hue Emulator.
oh2bnMaine Posted August 27, 2019 Posted August 27, 2019 I've been looking at this as well. I like the idea of putting one in the living room and the pool house for starters. I'd use these primarily as a video intercom system. Controlling lights in an ISY-controlled house seems to be more trouble than it is worth right now. Maybe when they can integrate into an ISY more easily. Today, if you wanted to do it, I'm envisioning you could get the Brilliant switch to control a Google Assistant/Home Routine. The routine would turn other lights on/off. That's just a guess. But that also requires cloud, so I'm not on board. I want my home automation controller to be 100% local. (The only thing that is not 100% local is my spoken commands via Home or Alexa.) If I could get Brilliant to send out and receive a REST command to my ISY, then I would be more inclined to buy a few of these.
oberkc Posted January 27, 2021 Posted January 27, 2021 (edited) I finally got around to playing with one of these Brilliant controllers. Regarding alexa, google home, and (now) HomeKit, it appears that this control (touch control, at least) is one-way: alexa can control the brilliant switch, but the brilliant switch does not control alexa or google home or HomeKit devices. The brilliant controller has alexa assistant built in, and I CAN control my devices linked to alexa via voice control, just not by touch control. Mostly, I was hoping to use the hue emulator as the interface between the Brilliant controller and the ISY. Unfortunately, so far, the Brilliant cannot discover the hue emulator, so this is not an option that I can see. I will keep trying and report back ifI have any luck. Edited January 27, 2021 by oberkc

Since the Brilliant can (and does) connect easily with the Home Assistant Emulated Hue, I don't see any reason why the Polyglot Hue Emulator shouldn't work too. I've been in contact with both @Jimboand @simplextechabout this, but so far haven't been able make any progress.
Jimbo.Automates Posted January 27, 2021 Posted January 27, 2021 Yes, likely requires something in new hue, it's on my list to look into, hopefully after the Elk nodeserver. Emulating a hue hub is pretty much a hack so never know when it will break or not work for something else. Took a lot of trial and error to get it working with alexa and google home years ago.Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk 3
carealtor Posted May 5, 2021 Posted May 5, 2021 Been a few months. Anyone make any progress on the Hue Emulator working with this? Or are we waiting for Polyglot Ver 3 for this too?
