respecTtheCode
I added 3 Z-Wave Schlage Locks to my house but I can only get 1 of them to pair with the ISY. The 1 that did pair has been very unreliable. I assumed it was a range issue so I purchase 2 Aeotec Range Extender 6 units but they wont pair with the ISY either. I even tried plugging one in a few feet from the ISY and it still wouldn't pair. The only other Z-Wave device I have is an old Aeon Labs Smart Energy Switch. I can include/exclude and control the switch without problems but it does have some range issues. I have tried factory resetting all of my devices but nothing changed. Is the ISY not compatible with newer Z-Wave devices? My Insteon network has been very reliable is Z-Wave not as reliable? Any ideas what I am doing wrong? stusviews
In reverse order: You are not doing anything wrong. Z-Wave is/can be reliable. The ISY Z-Wave Module is compatible with most newer Z-Wave devices. Is the range extender labelled DSD37? If so, I and many others found it to be useless. The best Z-wave range extenders are the Aeotech siren and Doorbell. Have you trued healing the Z-Wave network? The lock needs to be fairly close to the ISY to include it, then it can be moved to its final location.
MWareman
I agree with above. I also found the Aeotec 'range extender' to do absolutely nothing for my lock reliability (and actually caused issues). In my case, Kwikset locks. As soon as I replaced 3 range extenders in my home with two Aeotec 'sirens' all my zwave reliability issues went away. andyf0
Yes, but these are probably the newer Aeotec Range Extender 6 which are Z-Wave Plus and support the security protocols. They also have an LED on them that requires Color RGB support.

respecTtheCode
Ok it looks like I ordered the newer Aeotec Range Extender 6 but amazon sent me the DSD37. I thought something was wrong when the LED was always red. https://www.amazon.com/Aeotec-Range-Extender-Z-Wave-repeater/dp/B01M6CKJXC
respecTtheCode
I got one of the Aeotec Sirens and it paired easily. I then moved it right next to one of the locks but the lock wont pair. The ISY can still query and turn the siren on and off. Do I need to move my ISY to be next to the lock to get it to pair or should it pair with another Z-Wave device next to it? Unfortunately I already installed the locks and its a huge pain to remove them.
rccoleman
The locks, or at least the Z-Wave modules from the locks, need to be very near the ISY to pair. Repeaters won't help.

Unfortunately I already installed the locks and its a huge pain to remove them. Have you tried pairing the locks by opening the doors? I found that opening my doors on a couple of my locks, it put the locks in a location that they could be paired. If you can get them paired, perform a network "Heal Z-Wave Network". Z-Wave is a mesh network. The more Z-wave devices you have the better your mesh will be. As your mesh improves, so will the communication reliability of your Z-Wave devices. That the LED is always red indicates a problem other than ability to extend the Z-Wave network. It seems that you're not able to even include the Range Extender. MWareman
To pair security devices, they must usually be inches from each other. That is a security feature in itself - to help secure the initial key exchange. For locks, you should be able to remove the back and pair it right next to the lock. Then replace it and heal the zwave network to learn routes.
respecTtheCode
I couldn't figure out how to remove the back without taking the whole thing apart so I moved my ISY next to each door to do the pairing. That worked and I can control all of my locks now. Thanks everyone for all of the help.
