paulbates Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 I have one of these cables built and was getting ready to try it, but forgot about the 'extra wire' in the insteons. How do you wire these into the Wago's? Black and Red -> Black White -> White Green -> Green ?? You are right, except: Cap the red one off, do not connect it to anything. This set up gets you talking to the switch so you can give it its insteon personality Paul
stusviews Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 The green wire is ground and is connected to the ground wire (or metal box) for safety. It's not needed at all to test any device. BTW, I use both halves of the cut-in-half cord. I plug a lamp into the receptacle end after connecting the red wire to that half. That allows me to ensure that the device under test actually works.
thbrewst Posted September 12, 2017 Author Posted September 12, 2017 OK, so Black -> Black White -> White Green/Ground -> Green Red -> Nothing/cap Look correct? The intent here is just to get the switch on the system before I actually install it in the wall. Per the beginning of this thread I've had some issues getting the ISY to find new devices. Thus far however once they are found everything seems to work pretty well communication wise. Thanks again..
thbrewst Posted September 12, 2017 Author Posted September 12, 2017 OK, just for future searches... This technique works BRILLIANTLY. I was able to add 11 new wall switches and reset 5 old ones all in about 15 mins. Obviously I still have to put them in the wall sockets but now I can do so with no worry about connecting to them or doing the reset process on the old ones. Great idea guys (and or girls)!!!

Congratulations, and keep that cord in a safe space. Ensure its not left in the open if you have little children at home. Nothing would make me more sad than to read about a fatality due to hobby cord laying around. Rock On . . .
