LED Display Stands

I have an LED display stand that has 7 LED's and uses very little power. I have tried hooking it up to a couple of Insteon on/off modules and dimmers. In the off position of all they blink unless I add something to the load. I have added several Z-Wave devices to my system and would like a plug in on/off module to handle this and our upcoming Christmas requirements. Any ideas?

 

I also wanted to point out a design issue that I see on several Z-wave modules. They are designed to use the top outlet plugin. I have several Insteon wall outlets. The top outlet is controlled and the bottom is pass through. If you were to use one of these modules on an Insteon outlet you would need to plug into into the bottom outlet and block the top (Insteon Controlled Outlet)

Some of us have discovered the Inovelli ZWave products. Last week I purchased the Inovelli double-outlet ( https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01K6J1Y1I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1  ) and it fits the bottom outlet, leaving sufficient space for any plug to fit in the top outlet.

What type of power supply does the LED display use.

Unless the load is dimmable it should not be hooked up to a module that supports dimming. The on/off module should work for non-dimming loads.

there is a 4.5 watt power supply. I didn't work with an older Insteon Applicance Linc.

 

I have been reviewing the Inovelli ZWave products and am interested but have a few questions

1) Will they handle the low load?

2) I know they are dual and there is an issue controlling both unless you go to the Beta software. Will the standard software control one? I won't need the second until Christmas and would be willing to wait for a stable update.

3) Where can I find information on how to install the Beta software.

An appliance linc is just a relay.  It doesn't modify the power, it simply connects the outlet on the appliance linc directly to the house power when on.  So, something doesn't add up here.  Appliance linc is either itself broken or there is more to this story.

It will turn on and off. The problem is when the appliance link is powered off the led display stand blinks on and off along with the LED status light on the appliance linc. I have seen the same thing happen on Christmas lights. If I add addition load like a lamp or a cell phone charger it stops the blinking. I am using an older appliance link #2456S3 that works fine on a lamp or something with a larger load.

The (discontinued) appliance link has a load sensing circuit which may be incompatible with the led lights. The newer on/off module should work as it's a relay without the sensing circuit.

The ApplianceLinc has a Local Control Sensing circuit in it.

Even if set Off it is still there, just ignored.

 

The later ones 4.? also have a resistor/capacitor snubber across the relay contacts. There is also some current through the snubber when Off.

Some power supplies can't tolerate even this small current and will pules or flicker from the small current.

 

I don't believe there is any current on the present On/Off module.

Ahh, yes I forgot the older ones do that.  I have some led Christmas lights that would just slightly glow when using one of the original appliance lincs on it.

 

Get the new appliance linc and you won't have that issue.  Plus they are dual band.  Or you can put a dummy load on it.  People have done that with a resistor, the size of which I don't recall.  Maybe something like 10,000 ohms.  That would use around 1.4 watts.  Also, I know people would plug in a wall wart with nothing attached to the wall wart output.

I use Inovelli dual channel with  5.0.10 a d it works perfectly.

When I added the device to ISY, 3 nodes showed up, supposed  1 for each outlet and 1 controlling both at same time.  The latter does not work but that is not an issue for me. Controlling the two outlets individually works perfectly.

That will be fixed. Eric set Chris both modules to test with. I'm sure Chris will find the issue.
