Goose66 Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 Do the thermostats in NodeLink (Honeywell, Ecobee, etc.) show up in the Amazon Echo Connectivity portion of the ISY Portal with an Alexa Category of "Thermostat" (or Google Home equivalent), and thus can be controlled by thermostat commands to Alexa through the v3 Smart Home Skill?

Yes. Each Node shows up on the Alexa vocal to device listing. This inludes a main device, as well as all the remote sensors. I have never used any stat controls from Alexa or Google Home. I don't ever find the need but I do control the climates types on my ecobees t allow ISY to perform Intelligent Automatic Setback , whch stats do not offer and also based on outside temperature and windspeed effects on the house envelope.

I am aware that they show up, but the question is specifically do they show up with an Alexa Category of "Thermostat" (or the Google Home equivalent)? This is necessary for them to respond to thermostat specific voice commands like "Alexa, what is the main floor temperature" or "Alexa, increase the bedroom temperature by 3 degrees." If they show up as "Devices, Lights, or Switches" then you can pretty much only turn them on or off, which leaves them limited to whatever functions DON and DOFF commands effect.

I have never seen "Thermostat" as an option before, and since I never have had to use those options so far.... No. There is no Thermostat selection option when selecting my ecobee nodes, or my Venstar nodes, from NodeLink. However, I did find a "Thermostat" option when I selected an Insteon stat though, proving that I was in the correct location to find this option. I tend to avoid device control directly and use programs mostly but the vocal is harder to make smooth.
Goose66 Posted February 20, 2018 Author Posted February 20, 2018 Got it. Thanks for the info. Yes, for Insteon and ZWave thermostats recognized by the ISY, it appears that the Alexa Category in the Portal shows as "Thermostat" and is fixed (you can't change it). I was under the impression that this is possible for Nodeserver supported thermostats, but it is becoming apparent that this is NOT the case.
