Agave Restore

I am setting up a new phone and I was able to create a backup and email it via gmail to myself. After STFing I learned that I should be able to just click on the attachment to be able to restore the settings to Agave. However, my RainMachine app is linked to dat files and it wants to restore the Agave backup as a RainMachine configuration. I don't get an option.

I can go to my android downloads files and find the back up, long click and I see that I can share it with Agave backup. When I do so, it takes me to the Agave backup and restore screen but the files does not appear in order to be selected.

Where can I copy/move this file so that Agave can see it and I can select it and attempt to restore it?

Thanks.

interesting.  It should appear in the selection list.  when you tap on the drop down, do you see any backups available at all?  Do you have storage permissions allowed?

Thanks for the reply!

Nothing appears in the drop down and I haven't done a backup as nothing to backup yet.  I did double check permissions for Agave and storage is on, true.

In my old phone when I did a backup, it did in fact show up. I did two backups and in the drop down on the old S5 it seemed that both backups were highlighted, sort of darkened, and I really couldn't select which backup to send via email. I then deleted whatever was in the drop down box. Then the 2nd backup showed up, deleted it and ran a new backup, which showed in the drop down, and emailed it to the new phone which can't see/find it.

Interesting, Try doing a back up and see if it shows up just as a test.  If is shows up, try your restore.  Let me know the results either way.

Oh yes, when I do a backup it does in fact show up and able to be restored.

In trying to see if anything is visible such as my backup I want to restore from the other cell phone, nothing appears.

When I go to my download folder and try and share it with Agave backup, the phone will open the Agave backup and restore page but the only thing visible is my current backup. Trying everything to see if anything else is in the drop down nothing else appears.

The backup came over in the gmail attachment as: agave_backup_05_26_18-210937.dat. If that is a date assigned, that is weird as it was backed up and emailed from my old phone just a few days ago and is just an FYI.

A suggestion might be to make a new file extension for Agave backups so that if another app uses the .dat extension, (I believe a pretty common extension), another app won't interfere like my RainBird app.

I'll help all I can. The old phone was a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 and the "new" phone is a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7.

Thanks

John

Put Agave into debug mode and try to restore the file. Send me the debug log. Hopefully it has enough information for me to discover why it is failing.

Attached is the debug text file. When I clicked the little bug, it gave me several options two email clients and something through Samsung Things but nothing direct to you. So hope this is what you meant.

I enabled it, went to Backup/Restore, highlighted the backup I made.Exited back, went to my downloads folder, and sent the file there to Agave Backup. Then clicked on the drop down which showed only the existing backup.

Hope this helps.

I think I have fixed this.  There do seem to be some issues arising and not sure where they came from.  I'll see if I can get this out in the next release.

Yes sir you do! Latest version came in this AM. When I shared with Agave backup, Agave opened and the restore dialog appeared. I clicked continue on wanting to restore but nothing really happened; dialog disappeared. When I went back into backup and restore the backup showed in the drop down. Clicked it; continued with restore from May 26 etc; dialog appeared advising it restored the backup and would restart. It restarted and all of my shortcuts and setting were there!

Thank-you sir!
