NodeLink & Venstar "Thermostat Data Sync"

Wanted to know exactly how this functions in a multi-thermostat Nodelink set up?

Enable HVAC Mode Sync
Enable Home/Away Sync
Enable Schedule Sync

Does this cause 1 'stat to be a "master" and others mirror Mode,Schedule, Home/Away settings?

Do all 'stats need these settings checked?

A little unsure about how this would work.

Thanks!

There's no master. Changing one of them changes all of them when one or more of the boxes for a stat that is checked for that function. If any change, they all change.  It doesn't matter if you change any of the three from the thermostat, from the mobile app or a program.

There are a few things to think about with programs...

  • if its in schedule mode, that must be must turned off prior changing modes. The thermostat and apps enforce this. If programs try to change modes when schedule mode is set, that command will effectively be ignored. I have a program that turns off HVAC when a key door, window or attic dampers. Open for more than a few minutes. I turn schedule off, regardless of its state, and then turn mode to off, regardless of its state.
  • its best to have programs only change one thermostat of a participating group so an ISY program and this feature are not struggling / racing for control of the thermostats.

This discusses the origins of the feature

Thanks very much!
