geekdad Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 Hello. I received and installed a new PLM and the performance seems degraded dramatically. Some examples and I have no idea if these are related or if they require separate fixes. I regularly receive 'cannot communicate with device X messaging' this was rare and now is a daily occurrence. The water and door sensors seem not to be able to reconnect at all. I have tried removing and relinking them manually. They say they communicate but the programs that are supposed to kick off do not. Triggered programs do not seem to function. For example, when I kick on my bath fan it should start the towel warmer. Nothing. Manually kicking the run then statement works. This does not seem to correlate with the lost connection notifications. Any suggestions? Or has anyone seen something similar after PLM replacement?

If you did then you'll need to restore an ISY back up file. The battery operated devices need to be added one at a time. Never have two or more battery devices in the linking mode at the same time as the link tables will get cross linked. Replace ISY PLM.pdf
geekdad Posted September 23, 2018 Author Posted September 23, 2018 Yes I did follow the attached file. I did actually decide to buy a spare so I wouldn't be out again. And that fixed many of my problems. I'm still not getting program starting but almost all the 'not communicating' went away with the second PLM change. I think the first replaced PLM was just poor out of the factory. Any idea what could cause the program initiation failure? For example, I have a program that turns on Outlet A when light B is manually turned on. I turn on light B. And the program to turn on outlet A does not run. I get good signal and timer control of both outlet A and light B. Any guidance is good guidance.
paulbates Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 Are the programs that are not starting looking for an Insteon device to be "Switched On" at the switch? If yes, Pick any one of those devices Right click on the device in the admin console Pick "Restore Device" and let it run until the pop up status dialogues go away Test the program again by using the switch Paul

It's possible that the program code needs a tweak. How many dual band devices do you have in your setup. Have you made sure that both sides of your power line are bridged using dual band modules?

An image of my program is attached. Basically, if my kid in the basement hits lights out at bed it shuts off the rest of the lights in the basement for him.

Sometimes the entries in the PLM get "polluted" as the old PLM fails and the ISY backs that up - and then that 'polluted' info gets restored to the new PLM when the Restore PLM command is used. A possible alternative solution for you based on the above experiment proving out is: if you have good ISY backup from before the PLM failure and restore that.. then do a Restore PLM from the file menu based on restoring the ISY backup there still may need to be some manual clean up The other alternative is to plod through all of the devices following the procedure from my previous post Paul
Techman Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 In your program, move the line that contains the time statement up so that it executes before the light is switched off. Program execution order is from the top down, so you would want the time statement to occur first. You can also try putting the two IF statements in parenthesis. n8ur9irl Posted October 9, 2018 Posted October 9, 2018 I am having a similar problem after changing the PLM. I have searched through the forum and fixed some things but still have a long way to go. I replaced my plm step by by step. All went well for a day then I started having communication problems with a few random devices , then a few more. I finally cleared the plm and did a restore. then a restore devices. A few devices were still left so i queried and the red exclamation goes away the device appears to work but is replaced with the green1011 and they wont update.My isy version is 4.73 and the firmware and UI are the same. The devices include hardwired light switches, outlets, inline link, smoke bridge. My plm count loads to 152 so i have to replace it with my backup which is 162. I am getting the failures on my scenes also. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Techman Posted October 9, 2018 Posted October 9, 2018 The PLM link count can vary depending on what programs are running. It is an approximate count. There's usually no need to restore the PLM if the count is off by a small amount. The green 1011 means there are pending updates that need to be written to the device. Right click on the device then click on "write updates to device" That should clear the 1011 message. If not you may have a communications issue between the device and the PLM. If you're still unable to write to your device, then do a factory reset on the device, then a restore device from the ISY. The links for the scenes are contained in the devices, not the PLM.
