NOTE: - I have a terminology issue in the subject and in my first few posts - I should have written "toggle switch" instead of "paddle switch" - sorry for the confusion

 

I am looking to replace some Insteon paddle light switches - "ToggleLinc", which only support power line communication - with z-wave paddle switches, because I'm having some issues with communication over the power line.  I replaced one with the GE paddle switch, and it works great, but one thing I really miss from the Insteon switch is the white LED light that comes on when the switch is off -- makes it easy to find the switch in the dark. 

The paddle format is important stylistically (or I would probably just replace them with Insteon rocker dual band switches), so I'm looking for a z-wave paddle switch with a LED nightlight feature (that's compatible with ISY), but I'm having a hard time finding one.  Does anyone know of one?

The current Insteon Switchlinc dimmer is dual band, both power line and RF and has (small) white leds.  If you're using the 2466 togglelinc then you don't have the advantage of RF.

 Insteon is a mesh network, all devices relay the Insteon signals. The dual band devices relay the signals both on the power line and via RF.  The more dual band devices you have in your network the more reliable your system becomes. It's also important to insure that both sides of your power line are bridged.

The Insteon Switchlinc dimmer (and switch) are rocker style (i.e., using a "Decora" style plate and having a modern look) and so I'm staying away from them because they won't match the style of my old house -- otherwise that would be just what I need.  Currently, as I understand it, Insteon doesn't have a "paddle" style (more like a traditional light switch) that is dual band, and so that's why I'm turning to Z-wave.

We've a terminology issue in this thread.  A "paddle" and "rocker" switch are one-and-the-same style, both refer to that "Decora" style of switch.  What you're looking for is commonly called a "toggle" style switch.

I thought I had an answer for you, but given the above realization, I guess I don't...

In that case one other option would be to plug a dual band module, such as a lamplinc or on/off module,  into the same circuit that the togglelinc switch is on.

Yes - "toggle" is what I'm talking about. Techman, I will look into a supplementary dual band module. I hadn't thought of that.

I'm sensing that no one is aware of a Z-wave toggle switch with a built in led?

 

I've never seen one personally. Most companies put their effort into decors style switches as that's the look most people want including on here.
