Insteon 2441TH Thermostat - current temp not always reported

I have an Insteon 2441TH Thermostat v.10 (as reported by the admin console) and I have an issue where the current temperature being reported by the ISY is not always accurate. I read somewhere (unfortunately can't find the exact source) that it possibly doesn't always push temperature updates, and the solution was to write a program to query it periodically, which I did.

At first it looked as though this solved my problem, but upon further investigation it looks like the current temperature is only being updated while the unit is switched to heat/cool/auto mode. When the mode is 'off', even after querying the unit it only shows the temperature that the unit was at the last time it was switched on.

Is there any way to reliably get the current temp from this regardless of whether a mode is active or not? I have just migrated from the Insteon Hub to an ISY994i and when using the Hub & accompanying Insteon apps the current temperature was always available, so I have to believe that it gets reported somehow, regardless of what mode is active.

Any insight will be greatly appreciated!
