Product Request: Deadbolt lock that works

Request: A Deadbolt lock that works directly with the ISY. Or... a Z-Wave repeater that works with ISY Insteon signaling (RF+PLM). For almost one year now I've struggled with my Schalge Z-Wave locks to make them as reliable as the Insteon Devices. At best I'll give myself a C+....

I understand mesh technology, but my experience has shown that If the Z-Wave Schlage lock is more than one hop from the ISY it does not work reliably. The three Z-Wave locks inside the house are working ok. But I've made sure I can QUICKLY and reliably control one repeater between the lock and ISY. If I use two repeaters things start falling apart fast, and the lock, due to communication delays I believe starts to not be reliable.

The lock in the shop fifty feet from the house I have given up on for now. I've been able to "close the link" between the shop and a repeater, but it is not solid and comms errors are frequent. I've gone so far as to have six additional repeaters in the shop and nearest point in the house to make it work. NOT.....

So my next step was to try a WiFi lock. That failed because they insist on logging into their "cloud" to control my lock.  Bad plan from a security standpoint, and the Cisco ASA blocked it. Back to Amazon. I have no clue where their "cloud" is or who manages it, but my I was put into high alert when it insisted on my GPS being enabled......

I'm looking into the Bluetooth locks with a WiFi repeater, but I've been unable to determine if they need/want internet connectivity.

I may put another ISY in the shop close to the lock. That will fix the problem, but then I need to have two ISY's. Something I'm avoiding....

But.... If Insteon had a lock with an Insteon repeater... I already have at least 10 devices in the shop... I'd be golden. Or.... A Z-Wave repeater that connects directly to the ISY devices..... PLEASE!!!!

Any other suggestions I'm all ears. Sorry for the long post....

Two considerations:

Where is you ISY located? My experience was with it in media closet when I added zwave to ISY. The RF interference was terrible so you might consider moving it if your situation is similar.

The aeon labs sirens is an excellent zwave repeater. I’ve got one or two of them and they made my Schlage deadbolts reliable.

yea, thanks for the idea. The ISY is located upstairs in a room that is "close" to three of the Z-Wave locks. In the basement with the Firewall and Switch was terrible.... I have moved it around and played quite a bit... Maybe I'll try the Aeon Labs siren. It would be easier than installing another ISY....

Thank you.

Amazon had a sale on August locks and I wanted to see if my ISyY904i could control it, which brought me here.

I have an Milocks Insteon controlled lock that is reliable, but clunky. I don't believe the insteon to milocks RF controller is available anymore.

The August lock is Wi-Fi device, probably much like other WiFi smart devices; eg smart plugs (tp-link hs1xx). But these devices require a Cloud Server (Amazon  Google) to make them work.  I don't like the idea of Cloud Servers in my home. I would prefer to have this control solely on my possession.

Thus I look to the UDI community to develop procedures to capture the commands that control these devices and provide instructions on how to deploy them, sort of like iFixit tutorials.

I've seen allusions to my suggestion, but my searches have yielded dead links and/or a very high level of expertise.

This is a General request so I will post this in it's separate new feature request

Surfer Dude:

You said "I don't like the idea of Cloud Servers in my home. I would prefer to have this control solely on my possession."

EXACTLY. Alexis and the entire world does not need to know when my door locks are open..... So far, the WiFi locks I've seen (and tried one...) all want to connect to their "cloud" which nobody has any idea of how it is secured, how it is managed, where it is located, who runs it, and most of all what they do with YOUR information. Not happening at our house.

Thanks for jumping in. Note to the rest of the world: pay attention to who has your data and who you send your data too......
