Blackbird Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 I have the ISY and ELK, sending emails to pushover and gmail which seems to mostly be quick but sometimes slow. I just but a few CAO wireless tags and the instant the tag gets moved, the app is alerted. I beleive it uses push notifications which I dont really understand how that works. Is it possible to get the ISY and ELK to send notifications, just as fast, as in instantly?
TrojanHorse Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 I thought pushover used network resources - are you sending an email to pushover? Have you tried the network resource method? I notice that sometimes my emails take a while to get through to my phone as a text message, but they’re in my sent folder at the proper time so must be something with Verizon here. I put a time stamp in all of my ISY notifications for this reason. I’m not sure if you can do that with Elk - I didn’t see a way to do it and any messages I send from Elk are redundant with ISY for critical things only. There is a pushover node server on polyglot that you could try. If you don’t want to learn the NR way you could wait to get Polisy and try the node server. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Do you recommend where I can learn about how to use the network recourses for pushover? I did purchase the polisy. How quick are the notifications through network recourses or polyglot? Is it instant?

The advantage I saw was on iOS the push alerts get your attention better than email and maybe text too. Or wait and do the node server if you don’t want to do the NR. I haven’t tried that. Of course with any of these you’re relying on your network, the internet, pushover, cell provider or someone else’s WiFi maybe and your email provider if you are doing that, so it may not always be instant. I'll look into it. I too like having the ELK voice announcements and use them for perimeter sensors around my house. Always instant. 1

Wish I could offer more help, but I recall this being discussed here before. Note, I did see that for maybe 5 days or more, Verizon users were not getting notifications. brians Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 I use pushover and found that the pushover nodeserver was a bit of work to setup and the instructions are not very clear - took me an hour or so of trial and error before I got it working. I then found the instructions for network resource method and use that instead because it is much simpler and more flexible. I was used to having notifications for HomeKit (via homebridge) but I want to wean myself off HomeKit so looking for an alternative I found pushover. One thing those instructions for ISY don't say is you can add is &title (which the nodeserver seems to add). It makes the notification much better. body to 'token=#Application Token#&user=#User Key#&message=Test Notification' Just change the end and put a &title in there, this is an example of end of one of mine &title=Front Door&message=Locked You can also use variables etc. in message. For example one program can show status and user number of my Yale lock with one program could handle lock/unlock: &title=Front Door&message=${sys.node.ZW008_1.ST} User:${sys.node.ZW008_1.USRNUM} Does anyone know if there is a variable for the calling program name? Then I could make one notification NR for multiple things.
