PLM replacement woes

After years of excellent service I started having all sorts of connectivity issues. I did a factory reset on my PLM and got a "Safe Mode" warning. Later it started working but intermittently. I figured it was done so I replaced it. When I installed the new PLM and did the "restore PLM" it didn't quite work. I had to right click on each device, do a restore and then a write. Then the device red exclamations all resolved. But when I check PLM links there are only 28 whereas the old PLM had over 300. I've tried to do another PLM restore. It lasted less than one minute but didn't increase the links. It seems like I am missing all the scene links. From the ISY admin I can control most of the devices (some red exclamations returned so can't control those). I can control devices from within scenes. BUT,  if I turn on (or off) a scene the devices do not respond. The "current state" in the admin panel says all the devices are on, but they are not. If I create a new scene, it works. Just none of my old scenes work. Is there some way to get these functioning again without rebuilding from scratch? They are tied to Alexa and it would be a pain to recreate all that again as well. Also, if I right click on the scenes -> Diagnostics -> scene test it shows all devices failed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you power down both the ISY994i and the old PLM. Then change the PLM. Power up the PLM. Then the ISY994i.  So the booting ISY994i see the new PLM. Before the restore?

Yes. Followed the steps as outlined in the forum and the wiki. Also reset the new PLM and restored again (after the power down sequence on PLM and ISY).

I would suggest doing a factory reset on your PLM then a Restore PLM. Follow the attached instructions.

If the above doesn't resolve your problems then you might have a bad or dying PLM. What is the date code and hardware version of your PLM?

I did all of that. It’s a brand new PLM v2.5 to replace the old dying one. I factory reset the old one and the new one. Working with the new one currently.

The Safe Mode message means that the ISY is unable to communicate with the PLM. Have you checked your cable between the PLM and the ISY. Did you get this message after you replaced the PLM?

Sorry I may not have been clear. I got the safe mode message with the old PLM. That’s when I presumed it was bad. That and all the other acute issues. So I switched to the new one. No more safe mode. But all these other issues (some old and some new) haven’t gone away. Makes me wonder if it was the ISY that went bad. Not sure how I would even figure that out.

The fact that you have a low link count on your new PLM indicates that either the PLM restore didn't properly complete or that your ISY files are damaged.

I would focus on the PLM restore. Do a factory reset on the PLM then a Restore Modem. Be sure to follow the Replace ISY PLM directions exactly.

You may want to try a different power supply for your ISY994i. I have two fail over the years and caused issues with the ISY994i. The second one was from my older ISY99i so it had time on it before the ISY994i. From what I have seen recently. The power supply can be 5V-30V,  500mA or higher, + on center pin, 2.1mm center connector. Both of mine had a 5.5mm outside.

During the Just did this again. Same results.

Do both restore modem and restore devices once you factory reset the plm

The restore devices seems like it's doing more. However, it gets about 10% and then quits. It always stops on the garage door, which it says it can't communicate with. I had had similar issues when it quit on different devices. I just reset the devices and wrote updates to the devices until they all separately worked. Then the "File -> Restore Devices" procedure would get farther down the road. I would have thought that if it couldn't communicate with a single device, it would just continue on. But I think what is happening is that when it can't communicate with one device, the restore devices procedures simply halts and then none of the scenes get written. But the scenes work if controlled from a KPL. I just can't get them to work from the ISY admin console, and thus can't get them to work with Alexa.

What issues did you encounter with the failed power supply?

Mine was so far gone. The ISY994i didn't reboot after a power cycle. For cleaning up the setup.  I may have had subtle changes that I thought may have been things like power line interference or my old power line only modules {2006 if memory serves me for the 2476S's}  where getting crankier.

Others here had reported other symptoms that a PS seemed to correct.
