Brian H Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 Thanks for the link. It does sound like the customers got a real raw deal. This is not the first company to pull this type of stunt where the end user gets it stuck to them.
lilyoyo1 Posted January 18, 2020 Author Posted January 18, 2020 The least they could do is push an update so devices can be open to work with something else. The sad part is, this could be a large number of people turned off from using smart products. Especially if any has been burned before
Brian H Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 It is sad no real solution was provided. When Lowe's stopped supporting their Iris system. I read some got some compensation for their equipment or alternate ways it maybe used..
Teken Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 I've read the article several times and it never calls out why their *Hub* can't be relayed to be monitored to another CS? There are inherently only 3-4 ways to send data from the main board and that is via POTS / VOIP, Cellular, Satellite, and IP. The only time (in the past) of the four that could not easily be relayed to a CS is via IP. As the CS would need a dedicated IP Server to receive and process all of the system states. There are tons of benefits to ZigBee but as stated in the article this so called standard is anything from being standard! The so called ZigBee 3.0 is supposed to unify all of the different formats under one umbrella ~ moving forward. But, as of this writing is not backwards compatible like it was for USB where any 3.0 could operate fine and be seen for USB 1.0, 1.1, 2.0. Ultimately, the system will continue to operate but without being monitored by a CS which isn't ideal.
