sanders2222 Posted January 30, 2020 Posted January 30, 2020 I have a lighted address on my 20 year old house. Two wedge base bulbs are wired in series to the doorbell power supply (~27VAC as measured). They are lighted 24/7. My problem is the incandescent bulbs seem to burn out every 3-6 months. My neighbors never have to replace bulbs, so I wonder if my PS is the problem. I've replaced them with LED SMD bulbs which lasted longer (18 mos) but they too burned out. It's possible the LED's may be rated for 12VDC, but will those even work if AC powered? Anyone have any ideas on what my problems may be?
larryllix Posted January 30, 2020 Posted January 30, 2020 Get a 20vac or 16Vac doorbell transformer. LEDs will likely burn out if used on AC unless they are made specifically for that application. Some doorbell transformers have multiple tap and you can pick 12, 16, 18. 20, 24, 26 (etc...) Vac For Exit signs and other emergency sign they often use 240 V incandescent bulbs on 120 Vac and they last for 20 years, without the filament thermal shock.
Teken Posted January 30, 2020 Posted January 30, 2020 What does the OEM name plate indicate as the required operating voltage along with bulbs?
