CJVann Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 I have an ISY that I use with HomeSeer's software, and was hoping that if I bought an ELK, it could use my existing ISY. The salesman I spoke with said I would need to purchase a 2nd ISY - One for the ELK, one for HomeSeer. Is this correct, or can they share the same ISY over the network?
upstatemike Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 I cannot think what the salesman was thinking but I don't believe there is any circumstance where you would want more than one ISY managing the same devices! Also it is up to you if you want to talk directly between the ISY and Elk M1. If you have Homeseer talking to both you can hve Homeseer receive input from the Elk and then send commands out to the ISY. You don't have to go directly from the Elk to the ISY... it all depends on where you want to manage the rules.
CJVann Posted August 29, 2009 Author Posted August 29, 2009 That sounds more like it! So I don't need the "INSTEON-Compatible Elk M1 Gold", I can buy any Elk and it can can chat with the ISY once networked? Or is there something different in the software with the Insteon version of Elk?
Traditore Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Hmmm... Unless I'm mistaken you really need an ELK M1 Gold, not to mention an ELK M1XEP.
upstatemike Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 There is only one model of Elk M1 Gold though it is often sold in different bundles. You need an M1 Gold, a keypad, optional network interface, ISY, and PLM.
