smokegrub Posted April 10, 2020 Posted April 10, 2020 I changed my email account for Alexa and can access the account successfully. I also changed the address of the primary account in the portal. I can successfully open the portal but when I select tools I can see and use ISY Web Access but I can no longer link to Alexa. I have "forgotten" the devices and "discovered" them in Alexa. How do I get Alexa to link with the portal? Under My Profile I have the options USE Preferred ISY or USE all ISYs in Account. Neither option works. It appears the link to my ISY has been lost.
bmercier Posted April 10, 2020 Posted April 10, 2020 Do you have an error message when linking? Or is it that you get no devices when doing a discovery? Benoit
smokegrub Posted April 11, 2020 Author Posted April 11, 2020 I get all devices when I do discover in Alexa. In the Portal I can also see all of them ISY Web Address>My Devices. I just can't access them from the Portal in the manner where I could change their interrelationship with Alexa. What steps do I need to take to link the accounts (I have two) with the Portal?

Here's how to unlink/relink: Go to Alexa.amazon.com Make sure you are logged in with the Account for Home A. The last option in the menu allows you to disconnect Make sure to remove all devices Click on connected home | Devices Scroll to the botton and click Forget All. In the menu, Click skills Search for "ISY V3" Click on ISY Optimized for Smart Home V3 If the skill is enabled, you can click on "DISABLE SKILL" Click ENABLE to relink Enter the ISY Portal user and password for Home A. You should get a message to the effect that it's successfully linked. Close the window. Click on "Discover devices". This will retrieve the devices accessible by the user A (Home A). Repeat the same steps for Home B. Benoit
smokegrub Posted April 11, 2020 Author Posted April 11, 2020 I think I have already done that but will repeat tomorrow morning and let you know how it goes. Thanks.
smokegrub Posted April 11, 2020 Author Posted April 11, 2020 I am only now beginning to realize what a mess I have created. It all began with my wanting to change my email address. Cox has advised that they will no longer be supporting email so I decided to switch everything to gmail. No problem until I got to UDI. I have two ISYs. The remote may be unaffected by all this mess. I don't know at this time. This began with me changing my email address in the Portal to a gmail address. As I previously noted, if I use the Portal thus configured I can access my devices, etc. using ISY Web Access. But I can no longer access my devices through a link with Alexa. I also checked the ISY Launcher and it no longer works. It is obvious that I must have to change the email address elsewhere before things are going to work again. Before I do anything I need to know precisely what to do to get everything communicating again. Your help is essential and much appreciated. Alexa is still working locally and I don't want to lose that.
madcodger Posted April 11, 2020 Posted April 11, 2020 Just a thought, not specific to Alexa but re: use of a gmail address in general: Google requires two-factor authentication as I recall, but you can turn this off (make it "less secure") for an email address. If you haven't done this, access via a gmail account may not work. Also, try ports 465 or 587 if you have an option to change them. I also have two ISYs in a property that haven't been linked to Alexa (I think Alexa still linked to another property) so I need to mess around with my installs as well. Will check into it and report back this weekend as our systems/situations are somewhat similar. Only confounding factor is that we're without power and running on gen after an April storm here in Maine, and will likely be out for several days. Gen power seems very clean, though, so wanted to experiment with that effect, as well. Using zwave so might not be bad at all. #automationexperimentweekend!
markv58 Posted April 11, 2020 Posted April 11, 2020 Just adding a thought, gmail has a way to keep two-factor on and still use the account for ISY and other things. Log into your gmail account and under Security you can setup App passwords.
bmercier Posted April 11, 2020 Posted April 11, 2020 Just a clarification about the ISY Portal email address. It does not matter what email system you use, or if it has MFA activated or not. There is no integration with the email system whatsoever. The only thing that matters is that it has to match an email address that exists and you can access. And the only time where this is relevant is to receive Portal notifications, or when you forget your email address and need to reset your password. If for some reason you lose access to your emails, ISY Portal will still function, you will still be able to login. It's just that you will be missing your notifications, and you won't be able to reset your password if you lose it.

When you use email address A, Your spoken under Connectivity | Amazon Echo must be the spokens for Home A. Same goes for email address B and Home B. If you have that setup correctly, all you have to do is this:
madcodger Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 (edited) @bmercier Sorry, but these instructions just aren't working. Am on an iPad, and even when I start from a browser it just takes me back to the Alexa app. There is no setting for "Home A" and I have three locations set up (Home, Work, and a third property we have). Home is set to the place where I have two ISYs. Have tried with one ISY stipulated in portal, and with all ISYs allowed. Same email address used for both Alexa and ISY portal. Just never discovers devices. Have tried to discover "hub" alone, too. No joy. Keep in mind that I used Alexa with ISY extensively in the past in an ISY-Insteon system, so have done this in the past. We sold that property, and all from that ISY and location have been removed from portal, Alexa, etc. Portal works fine for both ISYs (use it to connect via Mobilinc, and for admin console sometimes). Just no-go for Alexa. Any help appreciated. Thanks! Edited April 12, 2020 by madcodger

smokegrub Posted April 13, 2020 Author Posted April 13, 2020 @bmercierI finally got the time to try to straighten out the mess I have gotten myself into. First, I have tried to change the password for Alexa account A. Although I can "see" my devices on the iPhone app and my Mac app and thus knowing I am in account A I can find no way to edit the email address at that level. If I log into www.amazon and attempt to log-in to the account using the old email address and password that fails. I asked Amazon for a new password and that failed. Note, please that the log-in's set up for the iPhone and Mac are working since I can log-in that way with ease. Thus, I don't know how to change the account email address. Am I going to have to abandon that account and set up a new one?

In the Alexa app, the options are not located at the same place, but the general logic remains the same. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be a "Forget all devices" in the Alexa app. I personnally find it easier to do the configuration on a computer, in a browser. For the purpose of clarification, the email address used with Alexa vs with ISY Portal don't have to be the same at all. When you are linking the skill, what matters is which ISY profile you are linking with. If during discovery devices are not discovered, do this: Login to ISY Portal with the SAME ISY Portal user profile you are using for linking. Make sure you see at least one ISY under the ISY tab. Click "My Profile" at the top right. If you have multiple ISYs in your account, and you want to discover all the devices: Under Amazon Echo and Google Home ISY, choose: "Use all ISYs in account" If you have multiple ISYs in your account, and you want to discover the devices of a single ISY: Under Amazon Echo and Google Home ISY, choose: "Use preferred ISY" Under My Preferred ISY, select the ISY you want to use If you have a single ISY, you don't need to do anything, it will use your ISY Make sure you have spokens for your ISY(s) Beside the relevant ISY, Go to Select tools | Connectivity | Amazon Echo If you have multiple properties, with each one ISY, you should have one ISY Portal user profile for each, and they should be configured to use the preferred ISY, and the preferred ISY should map to the relevant ISY.
