This morning I installed a Polisy at my Son's home. He has a specific need (controlling lights on certain days at certain times) and not being techie at all, he has no clue on how to manage the Administrative Console. By adding the Polisy and the Google Holidays Nodeserver, all he has to do is adding (whole day) events in his calendar, and with the programs that I created for him, his lights will go On and Off as desired.

I had initial problems to set up the Polisy and Michel reminded me of the need to add the Polisy to DHCP. My Son did not know his modem/router username and password and it took me an hour to get the IP provider to reset the modem/router, and after that the setup was very easy.

My Son also has Somfy blinds, so I will add that nodeserver at a later date.

In conclusion, another happy user of  Polisy.

I'd second that -- don't do port forwarding, not for anything anymore.  VPNs are becoming easier and easier to set up, and often are built-in to better-grade router/firewall devices.

You shouldn't really need to access polisy except for rare configuration changes.  If this is the case, I would suggest using team viewer to take over your son's computer and then from there you can access all the stuff on his network.  Team viewer is free if you only use it every once in a while.  I use it to fix my dad's computer a couple times per year.  Team viewer doesn't require opening any ports.

Thanks. He lives 5 mins from us and I guess it is easy to fix the nodeserver onsite :-)
