Update Failure

Hello James,

I am having an issue with Agave quite often. It does not happen with all of my switches and controllers, but a lot of them are popping up with "update failure" whenever I try to control any of them. Scenes and programs work fine. I have done refresh data updates but this has not helped. It doesn't happen with all of my Android devices, mainly with my phone. I have two tablets that work fine.

Thanks,

Robert

Is the phone a newer device?

Check to see if your phone is getting an ipv6 address vs an ipv4 address?  if so, check Settings -> ISY Logon Settings -> "Allow VPN Connection"

Also, *ALL* Verizon phones have been using IPv6 for about a decade, and prefer IPv6 has been a thing for nearly as long.

My workaround for this was to address the ISY via DNS: put in a static entry for it, but only an A record (IPv4) and no AAAA record (IPv6) so it will always resolve to IPv4.

I'm not referring to external IP addresses.  more referring to local LAN IP.  Since the ISY is on a IPV4 address the app assumes that the connection is a VPN if its not on the same local ipv4 subnet so it will ignore a connectivity check since its supposed to be a LAN connection.  If the "Allow VPN Connection" is checked the app will perform this additional check that will verify the ipv6/ipv4 lan check.  All it really does is save time on startup if its not needed.

Right, but this is internal DNS resolving to the ISY in the private IP range - my ISY isn't punched through to the firewall from outside the network, the only way in is VPN so the address only resolves internally.  When it resolves an IPv4 address, on both iOS and Android the default behavior is to connect via same subnet if it has an IPv4 address on that subnet, while using an IPv4 address directly this is not the default behavior and it will select a 6to4 tunnel first if available.

For me, it means tablets that never leave the home I don't have to check VPN support on Agave, and has some other benefits for IP address management. :)

I'm not home at this moment, but I can check that later tonight. Although I don't think my network is the issue. I can still control some of my switches, plug in modules, fan controls, and such.. What it is, is certain switches, fanlincs, etc. will not allow me to control them from my phone. I have a Samsung Note 10 with the latest updates on it. I haven't always had this issue either. I have had this happen before, but I would do a refresh and that typically fixed the issue. At this moment it seems more consistent. I have 10" Fire Tablet on the wall that is able to control everything with no issue. My wife which she has the same phone as I do, has had similar issues but they just went away.

Robert

So i still can't get my devices to work with Agave on my phone (Note 10+). It is constantly stating an Update Failure. Keep in mind, it is only my phone. My wife's phone works perfectly fine. I can make programs run on my phone but not individual devices. I also have a IPad mini that is able to function too. I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the app to no avail. I know it is not any settings on my ISY. I have had to revert back to Mobilinc on my phone for usability. Help is greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Robert
