ergodic Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 I just received one of the new Pharox 60 LED bulbs. These are true M-base dimmable incandescent replacements for about $40. They are listed at 6W, 300 lumens and 3000K color. Subjectively the light looks like about a 40W bulb. The color temperature is strikingly similar to an incandescent - perhaps a little cooler, and of course there's no flicker. I doubt most people would notice any difference between this and a regular 40W incandescent bulb unless they were sitting side-by-side. Physically, the bulb is like a smallish M-base screw bulb with a matte metal collar running around the lower half. This does reduce the light output directly below the bulb a little but otherwise is unnoticeable. In terms of dimming, it acts somewhat like the dimmable CFLs: it goes to about 25% and then shuts off completely. The good news is that it doesn't appear to affect Insteon signaling: I haven't hooked up a scope yet but I have it plugged in to a Lamplinc which works fine with it and it hasn't affected anything else in the house.
MikeB Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 Thanks for the report! I love the LED bulbs I've used. Can't wait until the lumens go up and the cost goes down.
