Skill v3 - Program with OPEN/CLOSE syntax

Featured Replies

Posted

I've got a network resource defined to open and close a blind in my hosue... and I've created a program that has an empty 'if', open NR in the "then", and close NR in the "else"

In the portal, I've selected the program, defined it as 'with open/close syntax', and defined the spoken. The portal shows my new entry as ISY Cat = Program and Alexa Cat = Device/open-close. Lastly, I've asked Alexa to discover new devices which it finds but seems to understand the states to be ON and OFF which I can control manually via the Alexa app on my phone.

I want to be able to say, "Alexa, close <spoken>" or "Alexa, open <spoken>"

I'm close but seem to have hit a road block... any 'best practice' recommendations to complete this setup?

Looks like you configured everything correctly.

What is it exactly that is not working? What does it do when you try to open or close?

Here's some general recommentations:

  • Try with a simpler spoken, such as "test". Sometimes, the choice of spoken makes it hard for Alexa to recognize.
  • Delete the Alexa device and re-discover. Sometimes, this type of device is picky, especially if you make a change of Alexa category in ISY Portal. It is best to delete the device in the Alexa and restart with a fresh one.

Tried again...

Alexa sees the 'device' as "ISY Program address XXXX" with a generic device state of "power is off" or "power is on"

Please confirm that that Program device in ISY with an Open/Close syntax will allow me to say "Alexa, open <spoken>"
