tome Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 I got a dual-band LampLinc and have it installed on a lamp. I was then installing two regular Access Points. I installed the first AP and pushed the button four times and it started beeping. I went upstairs and plugged in the second AP and the iight came on steady green. I was a bit confused as this isn't one of the conditions that is supposed to be seen. I was walking back down to see what was going on and happened to see the led on the dual-band LL was blinking. So, I guess it must have been getting the linking signal from the AP (or whatever it is called)? I guess this is ok, but just wanted to confirm. So I have a connection between the AP in the basement and the dual-band LL, right? The other 2nd regular AP, will just be plugged in on it's own and provide a connection for wireless devices in that area and does not need to be connected to another AP, yes? The other question I have is about the ISY and APs. Can you, and is there a reason to, link an AP to the ISY as a device? I realize it doesn't control anything but is there status info or anything that makes this useful? Thanks Quote

The dual-band device does not specifically mention whether or not it bridges happily with regular APs, and no where does it say anything about whether or not you can or should link an AP to an ISY for status. upstatemike Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 I would think a good reason to link to an Access Point would be so it would be polled each night along with the other devices so you could be alerted if there was a communication problem (somebody unplugged it or it failed). This assumes an AP will respond to a status request which I don't know if it does. Quote
Brian H Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 APs don't get linked to anything. The LEDs only give you tests for communications and phase bridging. I believe in the Smarthome forums. The new Dual Mesh Lamplinc was reported to bridge with any AP new or old. On the sales page for the 2457D2 Dual Mesh LampLinc it says doubles as an Access Point. Quote
