DavidJ Posted October 31, 2021 Posted October 31, 2021 Hello, I'd like to individually control the three relays in the Zooz ZEN16. However, after including the Zwave device, it shows as a single "On-Off Power Switch" in my network... not as three separate switches which I was hoping for. Toggling that switch sets all three relays on/off. Were my expectations to high, or am I just missing something?
MrBill Posted October 31, 2021 Posted October 31, 2021 I don't have one of the Zooz switch so I can't comment on that. Someone that runs Z-wave like @asbrilmight be able to comment, it's possible the switch may load more nodes in v5 of the ISY firmware. NOTE: your firmware and UI versions don't match, they should. Start by deleting all the admin.jnlp or start.jnlp files that you have, then clear your java cache. then since you're on windows install the ISY Launcher: This will create an Icon on your desktop called ISY Launcher which if you use this going forward should run the matching version of the admin console. The Launcher was new in 2018 and designed to alleviate the problems of browsers that block java and users that keep too many copies of start.jnlp around and run the wrong one, or don't remember to update it everytime when they upgrade firmware. You may also want to increase your Java cache memory. 1
DavidJ Posted October 31, 2021 Author Posted October 31, 2021 (edited) Thank you MrBill. I tried updating my UI several times and couldn't get it to work. But adding the Xmx parameter must have done the trick. With the update, and after excluding/including the ZEN16 Zwave device, the behavior remains the same. Hoping @asbril has some insights. Edit: Added Z-Wave version below. Edited October 31, 2021 by DavidJ 2

Don't jump right on that tho, you need to do your homework first. I suspect you have a 300 series z-wave board if you're on the V4 branch. With that hardware you can only upgrade as far as version 5.0.16C. You could upgrade the Z-wave to 500 series, but at this point you may want to stop at 5.0.16C and wait for ISY on Polisy (a different hardware upgrade) but will upgrade your z-wave to Zooz 700 series. Do you also have Insteon? How many of which type of devices? How many programs do you use?
DavidJ Posted October 31, 2021 Author Posted October 31, 2021 Have about 20 Insteon's (switches, thermostats, relays, water sensors), about 15 Zwaves (mostly switches, some temp sensors), and probably 20 simple active programs. I will do some searching for the Zwave 500 series and whatever "Polisy" is. Up till this point it's been super simple to add devices and programs... but maybe after a solid 9 years of use it is time for an upgrade!

In the admin console, if you click Z-wave > Z-wave version is it 4.55.00? or 6.81.00? 4.55.00 = 300 series Z-wave board... ISY firmware v.5.0.16C is the version you would need to upgrade to 6.81.00 = 500 series... you can upgrade to the latest version 5.3.4.. If you currently have 300 series z-wave (which is likely given the age and the fact you would know if you previously upgraded) I would suggest that you upgrade to 5.0.16C and save your hardware upgrade money for Polisy. Do any of your programs use the "Adjust Scene" functionality? If so, those programs will require manual tweeking after you change firmware branches from V4 to V5.
DavidJ Posted October 31, 2021 Author Posted October 31, 2021 It is 4.55 = 300 series. So I will follow your advice to find instructions to update to 5.0.16C (I don't use "adjust scene"), and wait for Polisy. You are super helpful! It's people like you that make this fun. 2

Couple things... make a backup before you start. (obviously) Open the programs tab and click the top folder (probably My Programs) then right click and pick Copy Folder to Clipboard. then open notepad and paste, then save... now you have a text copy of your programs in case you need to refer to how something was. After you update... the credentials will be reset to admin/admin first 2 things to do when you log in are: 1) check Help > About and make sure you are in matching versions firmware and UI. v4 and v5 really don't like each other if your admin console is still in v4. 2) next head the the Programs Tab and Summary sub-tab look for YELLOW... if any program has a Yellow flag it needs manual help. Disclaimer: I don't have Z-wave and don't understand all the concepts, but you might want to find the upgrade post from the last week or so and read what the guy said. 2
asbril Posted October 31, 2021 Posted October 31, 2021 I think that @MrBill has said it all. I don't use the Zooz Zen 16, but have MimoLite for my automatic curtains. These were installed several years ago and I remember that I had to switch the wires from what it says they needed to be, but don't remember the details.
DavidJ Posted November 1, 2021 Author Posted November 1, 2021 (edited) @MrBill and @asbril ... thank you both. I'll upgrade sometime in the next couple weekends to see if it makes the ZEN16 relays accessible. If not, at least I'll be upgraded! You guys are awesome. Edited November 1, 2021 by DavidJ 1
