matapan Posted December 14, 2021 Posted December 14, 2021 Hi Everyone, I just installed an Elk panel in my house. The panel came with a Elk M1XRF2G receiver for GE/Interlogix wireless devices. I'm looking to install a smoke detector and want to know if it's. better to get a wireless unit - Alula makes an Interlogix compatible unit. Or, is it better to go with a wired unit like System Sensor 2W-B2? There isn't a lot of information I found on the Alula unit as far as the transmitter is concerned, Crystal or SAW? Anyone know if the Alula unit works with this receiver? Also, how does one setup the panel to enroll the wireless smoke detector?
apostolakisl Posted December 14, 2021 Posted December 14, 2021 I installed 4 wire GE detectors that are in this series. https://www.surveillance-video.com/security-449ct.html They come with different configurations depending on where you are locating them. In other words, you can get them with different configurations of eol relays, sounders, heat, smoke, etc. They require a reversing relay to have them all sound in the event that one triggers. They also have replaceable optical chamber which is nice. At 10 years I replaced those at minimal cost and brought them back up to spec. They also run self-diagnostics so you know when they need servicing. I actually had a small fire in my garage. I had been welding and the phone rang. I went to answer it and some hot slag lit my work bench on fire. The detector picked it up and the only damage was some stuff on my work bench. That and a mess of fire extinguisher dust. 1
