PLM 2413U - Preferred Hardware Versions/Revisions?

Recommended Posts

My understanding is that for its serial sibling (2413S) any version lower than 2 is prone to fail (mainly capacitor failures). However, this got remedied with version 2.x. and those seem to be going strong even after several years of use.

I was wondering if there are similar considerations for the USB version (2413U), i.e. which version should I be looking for get?

Thanks!

The 2413U PLM and 2413S PLM usually had the same main board and a different daughter board.

So the same choice of capacitor should be in both version.

I know the revision 2.3 2413S had a new capacitor series in it. That was made to be in switching power supplies.

Thanks Brian, so in short one should stay away (of possible) from everything lower than V2.3 - this applies to the serial, as well as the USB version, correct?

If possible v2.3 or higher would be best.

I know for the serial v2.3 it also has a better serial interface chip. With a better ESD rating. V2.4 had a new serial daughter board that also had some signal protection on the two serial signals.

I vaguely remember in the Insteon Forums. It was mentioned that one one revision was only on the serial model and was not on a USB version. But that number was skipped to keep both revisions matching for later versions.

I can't get up and running with the serial & usb swap??

I got the USB PLM from SmartHome
(ordered before the holidays, my serial PLM started working again ... until the other day).
Unplugged serial PLM & ISY
Carefully did the serial daughterboard swap.
Plugged in.
Admin console.
ISY throws a bunch of errors, always wants to write to the unit ...

Restore PLM.

Seems fine. PLM found. Link table has 104 lines.

But everything is a red exclamation !

Is there some incompatibility?
Additional instruction I am not aware of?
Troubleshooting? Ideas? Options?

I have tried unplug & replug, new ethernet cable, new outlets, ... brought another couple double band units nearer, to try to ensure cable & wireless comms are covered.

Every time I log into the admin console it always wants to write stuff, or in one case went into safe mode, changed outlets again, no more safe mode, ...

Still can't get proper communication???

Most of our Insteon stuff has is inline, without user control option, both 110 & 220 outdoor lighting, hot water, pumps, ...

So without ISY program + PLM, or Alexa voice command ... this is quite stressful.

You only need 1 post about the same subject instead of multiple posts though out the forum.

First, make sure that your PLM is connected to the isy and powered on before powering up the Isy. Once you do that, you want to run, restore PLM and then restore devices.
