All Insteon Devices turn on without any intervention

Recommended Posts

I have experienced multiple instances where all of my Insteon device will turn on for no reason.  I use the ISY944 pro for control and programing.  This has happened on more than on one occasion.  When this last happened I attempted to log into my ISY using the Administrated Application on my computer, but it could not find the ISY.  I rebooted the ISY and the app allowed to add the ISY so I had access.

I am wondering if anyone else has had this happen, if so, do you know whey this happens.

Thanks

Thanks the the Heads-up on this Techman.  In reviewing the log I see multiple occasions where I have had 8 or more on/off cycles in a row on one of my motion detectors that operates on a battery.

I replaced the battery and than look on hardwiring the Motion Detector to prevent this from happening in the future.

The motion detector is a Motion II and I do have it programmed to notify me of a low battery condition, but I never seem to get a low battery alert.

I'm not familiar with the MS II but is there an option to adjust the voltage that triggers the low battery notification?

I use the older motion sensors and the low battery notification has never worked.

I wrote a program that monitors the dusk / dawn signal, when that doesn't report I know it's time to replace the battery

Lithium batteries, such as Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA or AAA, will only report 100% or 0%. They don't wear down fractionally like alkaline batteries. I don't know if this helps your specific situation but thought it was worth mentioning.

@gregkinney, this is a VERY good point.  I have moved mostly to Energizer Lithium AA batteries and was wondering why most of those devices continue to show 100% after so long.  More research shows you are generally correct, in that the ramp down is very slow in voltage during first part of life, then rapid at end of life.  Thanks for pointing this out.
