ControLinc just clicks when pressed and spaz's out when you try Factory reset

Push any button and it's "click-click-click..." and factory reset is even worse.

The unit does blink on Insteon traffic from other devices. Any clues on how it might be repaired?

Thank you

Unplug it, wait about 30 seconds then try another factory reset, then a restore device.

If that doesn't work, then it may have reached its end of life

Has the same black mark on back of board as I've seen in another thread. I think that was an overheated zener diode if I recall. Note sure what the the cylinder is between the two electrolytic caps is. No markings on it. I believe the other unmarked cylinder is the piezo buzzer. Changing electrolytic caps seems to be the common trend.

I remember your post and fix. For the 2430 ControLinc Maxi.

I would at least look at the board and see if it has a similar problem. Maybe try a new capacitor. My thoughts where with the cap not working correctly. There was too much ripple current in the diodes. The black rectangular diode next to the large capacitor is a zener diode seen in many of the older Insteon devices.

That wasn't my post - that was user Matapan. But I'm reading your notes to him. His would not power up. Mine will power up and stays up - at least the LED is on. But pushing any button or trying to do a factory reset do not work. Unfortunately I do not have either of these two electrolytic caps in had to replace. But I think I will give those a try and just see what happens.

My bad.

I would suspect the larger one as it is in the main supply. Though would not hurt do do both as a safe thing to do.

Actually, I do have them, but in a slightly larger size. I think they will clear the space in which they sit when the board is screwed in. I'm going to give it a shot.

I found my rough sketch of a 2430 supply area.

The C2 470uF/35V is the 30 volt main supply and the 30V Zener diode is across the cap. The black mark on the bottom is probably that diode getting warm. I have seen this before. It is used for the power line transmitters power. The C4 100uF/16V is in the +5 volt logic supply used by the electronics.
