I know how to add a favorite but can't there be an easier way to do it like clicking on the device and simply click an add to favorites button or a star?  Also is it not possible to change a custom name or icon after its been added to favorites?

Favorites can be edited by clicking the edit button (pencil icon) at the top then clicking the favorite, then select edit.

Adding from the home tab is on our list.

Favorites can be duplicated, used as a folder, or adding using different status values. So there can be one (node) to many (favorite) relationship.

But you cant change an icon for example, after the favorite has been made, correct?

Icon can be changed. 

There is a caveat, favorites icons have a lower priority than custom mapped values (configure colors/values/icons).
