I just moved to a new home. I removed my ISY and all Insteon products from the old home. Now I need to start over setting up all the devices and scenes. All the old names of devices, their locations and inter activity with other devices is all different. How do I clear all the old programming from my ISY and start new?

Thank you for any help.

@Dan Torbeck

Factory Reset

There are only a very few reasons for performing a Factory Reset:

  • Corrupted File system (blinking ERR light)
  • To start fresh ... i.e. if you are going to restore your old backup on the same ISY, then in all likelihood factory reset is NOT going to fix anything
  • Reuse one ISY for more than one location
  • You have configured your ISY with a static IP address, changed router/network, and can no longer access ISY

IMPORTANT: You must reconfigure ISY again or restore your backup after the factory reset.

  1. Use a sharp object to push in the Reset Button till the RX, TX, Mem, Error lights start blinking (every second)
  2. Hold for at least 30 seconds until all of the the RX, TX, Mem, Error lights turn off and Mem light starts flashing quickly
  3. Release and wait for system reboot (reboot is complete when Mem light stops flashing)

In addition to Factory resetting the ISY you should also factory reset each device.   Most devices, Pull out the Air-gap or set button, wait briefly, then press the same all the way in and HOLD it in until the long beep STOPS or ends.   Devices that don't have a set button that pulls out, same process basically, hold the set button while the device is powered up and continue holding it in until the long beep stops or ends.

This could be done as they are installed, but i tend to wire devices up to a test cord, and plug them in, factory reset them, add them to the ISY, test them, and then install them.

(cap the red wire with a wirenut while using the test cord.)

If you intend to bench test them like @MrBill suggested, then it is easier to factory reset them by holding in the set button while you plug it in.  In my case, my bench test setup has an on/off switch which makes it easier yet.  I push the button in and flip the switch on.  Tends to be a PITA to pull out the air gap and then another PITA to click it back down without your finger slipping off requiring you to start all over.

In my case the bench has many plugs on a strip within arms reach.  Like this, but not because mine not plug in and is wiremold branded (a "sample" the factory rep sent me as a christmas present back when I was in the business)
