waffles Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 I just bought a used dimmer model 2477DR. It seems like any other of my many 2477D dimmer switches, but I have the hardest time adding it to my ISY. I keep getting the "cannot determine insteon engine" error. The circuit where it is connected to is electrically 'clean' enough for all other Insteon devices to get adopted/working. However, I also tried different circuits in the house to no avail. What confuses me a bit is that the label says 2477DR. I have never come across this "R" version and seemingly google neither. Any thoughts/pointers?

lilyoyo1 Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 Make sure your isy firmware and UI matches. Factory reset dimmer. If you're adding using the address, make sure the address matches. Sometimes the #8 is mistaken for a B or D. 2

Brian H Posted January 14, 2023 Posted January 14, 2023 Glad you found the issue. You are not alone. I believe 0 and D are another one sometimes read incorrectly. Could be worse. The older ones had a paper glued on label. That sometime fell of and got lost. 😁 1

Thanks. yep, taking a picture and zooming in is very helpful. I was wondering however, if there is a way to read out the address if its label got lost.

Got it, thanks! Thus far I have been using the 'light bulb' icon to add new devices. This seems to require the address to start the discovery.

I'm young enough I can still spot the difference unmagnified, but I have made the mistake a couple of times. I just take a closer look and voila!
