Does anyone use a dimmer for ceiling fan speed control?

If not please explain

What I dislike is that I have two fans that do not have the speed control selector chains on the fan. If I did not use some kind of speed control I would be stuck with turbo speed only. So right now my fans NOT on my home automaton network, bummer I was shooting for 100% automation. :?
