Changed PLMs, restored old PLM, screwed Insteon links and need to rebuild house - help!

Summary:  swapped ISY to EISY, tried new USB PLM, swapped back to Serial PLM, maybe Deleted modem, now screwed...

How I got here:

  • Got an eISY to replace my ISY994.  Also bought a new USB PLM
  • Did the swap over from the ISY to the eISY.  Initially started to use the USB PLM, then realized I could use the old serial PLM with less efforts.
  • Seemingly got everything working correctly.
  • When adding a new Insteon scene I think I might have accidentally hit the "Delete Modem" command
  •  Devices didn't respond to commands, so I did various permutations of Deleting/Restoring the PLM, Restoring devices, etc 

What I get now:

  • the eISY can connect with the USB PLM and some of the devices will respond.
  • When starting the admin console I get "Failed communicating with" errors for 8 or 9 devices (devices I think I tried to communicate with when the serial PLM was attached?)

What I think has happened:

  • It feels like I've got parts of 2 PLMs in various link tables in various devices and the only way to 'fix' this would be to start over.

 

While I have read and re-read the Restore/Delete PLM user guides, I can't seem to figure out the correct process to nuke all the links in the house, ensure I've only got one PLM in the system, and rebuild from the admin console.

Any help appreciated!

Yes (I think original, and yes later), yes, and yes.

The challenge at this point seems to be only some of the devices are failing so I've clearly got in an inconsistent state.  It feels like I need to nuke all the link tables in the house?

Being that you've tweaked a lot of things it's difficult to assess exactly what the problem is. 

How are you interfacing the Serial PLM with the eisy?

What PLM is currently attached to the eisy?

When you click on HELP | ABOUT what is your firmware and UI versions

When you click on TOOLS | DIAGNOSTICS | PLM Info, what does it show?

When you click on TOOLS | DIAGNOSTICS | SHOW PLM LINKS TABLE, what is the  link table count?

Concur.  That's why it feels like I need to whip it out and start over.

It was via Universal's custom cable

65, and the table is attached as well.

Reiterating from above - when I start the admin console I get about 9 "Failed communicating with" errors, so there is definitely some missing links?

Your PLM link count of 65 is too low for the number of devices you have.. Most likely when you switched PLMs your link table didn't fully populate

Is your USB plm connected to the eisy with a standard USB cable?

What is the result when you right click on a device with red explanation marks, then do a restore device?

Your firmware and UI are outdated. Before you do any more tweaking, update both as the current firmware contains numerous bug fixes. Be sure to clear your java cache (check all 3 boxes), after the firmware update, then download the IoX Launcher from here:

@MrEstateManager,

I looked though the PLM record file you provided hoping to understand what happened.  I am no smarter as a result.

I imported your XLM table to Excel (left side) and then converted to HEX (right side) below

What I did learn -

  1. You have 65 link records - they are all to unique devices. 
  2. All of the records are for group 0, with the PLM as the controller (flag E2).
  3. There are no devices listed as a controller for the PLM (flag A2) and no scenes listed.
  4. The device that you showed above as non-responsive (Entry cans @40.CF.51) is included in the table.  This is likely a I2CS device that is missing the PLM link and refuses to respond as a result (security reasons).

Because you have no scenes listed in your PLM, you will not be able to control them.

Because you have no devices listed as controller for the PLM (flag A2), no devices will be able to control the PLM (can't fire programs with a button press, device initiated on/off tracking won't work).

In short - that's a very messed up PLM.  The second set of figures shows my plm with various groups (scenes) and control records from different devices.

If I had to guess, I'd say that you had a partial PLM restore and possibly an erroneous backup.  You could go back through your older backups and try to find a good one to restore from (ISY Restore).  You may need to restore your PLM after the ISY Restore.  https://forum.universal-devices.com/topic/3999-how-do-i-replace-my-isyplm/?do=findComment&comment=30953

In any event, the most expedient route would be to follow @hart2hart's advice and create a support ticket.
